I actually have 9 6th cousins show up by common ancestors, most (all?) of whom appear to be genuine, some up to 14 cM

Having uploaded my DNA, English only heritage as far as I can ascertain, to FamilyTree DNA my impression is that FamilyTree DNA is of limited value with such heritage. The only matches I have managed to see a link to are those that I have established from other sites

Another advantage of myHeritage is that it tells you how closely shared matches are to both of you

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / MyHeritage cluster omission
« on: Monday 19 April 21 10:36 BST (UK)  »
One of the clusters I get contains 3 individuals at 35, 28.1 and 26 cM.  On looking at each match all share a 4th match A, at 41.8 cM, and each triangulates with A  and me to chromosome 14.

I have been able to identify A as a 5th cousin but why does he get omitted from the cluster?

As JohnDoe says if they are the same generation they would be half 1C.

My Ancestry matches revealed someone who can only be a half 1C, a 339 cM match, with his niece a 167 cM match. In my case the dates fit with us sharing my philandering grandfather

Have you been through your shared matches?  Although, if they are below 8cM, they won't show. It would be best if you could compare segments, etc.

Unfortunately this is on MyHeritage and we don't have the additional access. I missed the free offer the other week

Jane
My grandfathers were born in 1875 and 1882, my wife's were born in the 20th century. We actually share a set of ancestors, my 4 x great grandparents (born 1750) were her 6 x great grandparents so we have no shared matches and share about 4cM according to Gedmatch.  Accordingly I have quite a few matches on Ancestry that trace back to the 18th century but she has very few.

The subject of this query is not related to our shared ancestor but relates to a branch that all came from a small area of Suffolk that seems to have provided her with a lot of matches

Thanks Gadget, even a double link at one level seems too little to explain it, and it is a small community, ca 1000 in 1801.

Elucidating it even in what I have traced is problematic with illegitimate children and belated marriages confusing things.
