In the BNA there is an item from the West London Observer issue of (Friday) 4th December 1914 which mentions: "Three boys. Arthur Salmon. Norman Watson. and Arthur Smith, have been accepted by the Admiralty as signal boys for coast patrol vessels, and joined their ships on Tuesday."

There is a pension record in Fold3 (via Ancestry) - found by searching via his soldier no. 3906.

MrsL,

Are you able to tell us:

what Donald's father's occupation is recorded as on the m/c?

the names of the witnesses on the wedding day?

Also - what was Donald's 'place of residence' on that day?

Thank you.

The GRO index has a male entry for a JAMES (with mmn SEDGWICK) registered in Wigan in 1877, but no such entry for a female JANE.

As Debra has suggested - possibly the baptism name is faulty.

World War One / Re: In which battle was my grandfather injured?

Ruth,

If you execute an exact search via the British Newspaper Archive specifying: "Mason (13623)", you will be rewarded with just 2 results - in respect of articles referencing your grandfather (both published on 30th December 1915) from The Sheffield Daily Telegraph & The North Star (Darlington).

As what you will see are just (OCR) snippets, to view the full articles you will need to register with the BNA - which you can do for free & which will then grant you sight of an initial 3 pages at no cost.
