Viktoria- good to hear your bathroom painting is coming along and a more pleasing shade of yellow!
My father too died in 1974 only 6 months after we married, he had been very ill at the time but had hidden it well... I never got to say goodbye to him as we didnít leave nearby and could only visit at the W/end... weíd arrive late on Friday night after working all week and go to see him ( in hospital) on Saturday but we never got there as he died late that Friday night....as an only child I was devastated...
Iím sure he watched over me that year as I felt his presence and felt quite comforted ... then one day I realised I didnít feel it any longer so he must have thought I was ok....
Sorry for being morbid but reading your post just brought it back to me...
Iím sure the flowers picked from your garden will look just as lovely by his photo...
Sorry you donít get to see your son... people are allowed inside homes now though... or is your area under tighter restrictions?

Annette - glad to see your post as Iíd been wondering if all was ok with you.... now the weather is on the turn itís not so easy to be busy outside! Hope you enjoy lunch out on Saturday..

Roobarb - Yes, wet and dreary here most of the day .... although a little ray of sunshine about 3pm but storm clouds gathered and it chucked it down.... autumn definitely although outside temp 18C... glad you enjoyed your lunch out, change of scenery is always pleasing..... sometimes good not to do much...

Woke to grey, wet day.... not much to get up for so didnít! Stayed in bed and read.... late breakfast.... had some paperwork to do... Booked a c n c Waitrose slot for Monday... think I may need fresh bits before then though...
Yesterday Iíd set myself three tasks for today.... failed on the first really didnít feel like doing any yogalates... instead I did the second task....the ironing I watched a programme all about the pyramids in Nubia... very interesting... early archaeologists had a great deal to answer for there sadly...
Had a late lunch as ironing seem to take a long time to do... OH trying to get on with his sandy, pyramid desert scene jigsaw....
Altered pair of trousers I bought and not really worn as far to big...
Got patterns sorted for 🌈 scrubs and laid fabric out on the landing ... really like to use dining table but thereís a jigsaw on it! Crawled around putting pattern pieces on... good job I do exercises every day otherwise never get up and down!
OH offered to cook dinner... only spaghetti but he makes a good one... bless him heís cleared the table too so at least I can do it there now...
Late dinner following on everything else late today...
Watched couple of episodes of The Crown....

Thatís it for today.... hope others have had a more exciting one!

Viktoria - you are a true breath of fresh air and your stories about your life is most interesting.... I hope youíre writing it all down for future generations..
I am in awe of your decorating skills... gardening attention and cooking... you are a true marvel and keep us all smiling.... just be careful and donít fall off any ladders, stools or anything else you may be using!

Louisa - sorry to hear your wedding band is giving you so much trouble... the thought of having to get it cut off doesnít bear thinking about after wearing it for all those years...I had very small fingers when I married at 21 and in my mid years after working for many years my fingers got larger and I had to have my band made larger... I felt bereft just having to leave it with the jeweller for a short time. I hope your finger reduces in size and you donít have to have it cut off!

Roobarb- youíve certainly been busy in the garden to day... Iím sure itíll look lovely in the spring when the bulbs come up... I like pansies too. Our pink geranium in a pot outside the front door is still flowering well.... I keep taking off the dead flowers and more seem to come, this is now itís 4th year and left in all year bought for the grand sun of .99p so itís certainly earned  itís keep! Good to get a walk in before those arctic winds start blowing!
Great to hear youíre off out for lunch too...

My day

Woke again to lovely sunshine and flung all windows and doors open...Possibly for the last time!
After breakfast went on the computer to sort out the order Iíd received from a customer... officially we closed the business but I struggle to say no when someone phones up wanting stuff... spent some time sorting it out and had to then dash for a shower then off to Tuesday morning coffee... I took the rest of the cake my daughter had made just enough left for 4 slices...
Sat out in the sunshine which was a real tonic... we discussed what next week might look like weather wise and if weíd still be able to meet up!
Lunch time by the time we left!
OH and neighbour had been up in our loft as weíd had problems with hot water when the family were here...like after 3 showers on Sunday there wasnít a drop coming out of any hot taps until Monday morning.... turns out it was something to do with the ball cock on the tank...
After lunch sat outside reading trying to make the best of the sunshine....
Had a game scrabble had to stop midway as neighbour came to help fix the ballcock .... he stayed for a cuppa and a chat... he loves to natter! His wife had been out shopping and returned and he was still chatting!
Quickly finished our scrabble game and I got soundly beaten now down two games.... not going to challenge him again
Got dinner ready cod steaks in the oven cooked over potatoes, peppers, chorizo, tomatoes and mushrooms.. spread mixture of cream cheese ( low fat) and pesto on top of the fish..
Had to dash off to meet S to deliver face coverings and stuff Iíd ordered for her...
Nearly 7-30 by the time we had dinner... finished in time to watch Boris outline new rules... good to see heís not changed meeting 6 in or out... hope they implement other rules more vigorously than before...
Watched some tv...
Tomorrow must do the ironing, some yogalates and cut out 🌈 scrub tops.... thatís the plan anyway!

Hope others have been able to take advantage of sunshine...

Carol - Firstly let me say Iím so sorry to hear about your Son and what a shock for you all. You are in my thoughts at this very precarious time.

Roobarb - your description of the beach and youíre walk along sounded uplifting and Iím right there with you... I love the expanse of sky the east coast gives you and I can imagine it looked beautiful... how nice to come across old friends too.
Good luck with the weights!

Mowsehowse - pleased to hear youíve been able to find the budgie a home in an aviary with other birds for company... Iím sure you were sad to give it up but it certainly gave you some excitement for a couple of days!

My day
Iím writing this on Tuesday morning as I lost what I wrote last night and was too tired for a rewrite!
The sun was shining through the edges of the blind so I knew the promised good weather was there for the day...
Then I suddenly remembered that I was delivering two cakes this morning For local hospice and had forgotten to make them on Sunday....
I quickly whipped up two lemon drizzle  cakes before Iíd even swallowed my breakfast...
Managed to get all bedding and towels washed and on the line after familyís visit...
We watched the two scientists give their tv conference on latest statistics and both thought that this was being done as prelude to Borisís announcements on Tuesday.. their figures seemed quite alarming and hoped they were over exaggerated for worse case scenario but would give a wake up call to all the half wits out there who are enjoying life without a care for others,  putting our lives into more restrictions. Not enough enforcement being placed on them in my humble opinion. The information regarding the vaccines was encouraging but not holding my breath that weíll get them any time soon and felt that spring time seemed more likely than by the winter.
Once cakes had cooled down I wrapped them up and walked up the village to deliver them... on my way I dropped off a donation for MacMillan to friend whose holding coffee morning on Friday but not comfortable going and mixing with people Iíve not seen at all over these last months.
When I delivered the cakes A mentioned my friend who lives behind me up the lane had promised a cake too but not arrived.. I contacted her to discover she was out and cake sat on her kitchen counter! Walked back to retrieve it from her house then duly delivered that too! I then walked to the other end of the village to drop off this weeks village lottery winnings! The builders in the village must have wondered why the heck I was walking backwards and forwards so many times! Thatís my exercise for the day now!
Sat outside With my lunch and enjoying the sunshine reading the Sunday papers... mostly COVID, brexit or US elections so skimmed most of it! The crossword this week was more fun to do and I completed over half...think thereís a new person setting the questions as not as obscure as usual!
Had a game of scrabble was well in the lead then OH almost at the end of the game used all his tiles to score extra 50 points so now heís one ahead again😤😤
Decided Iíd go and finish off last of face coverings... makes 130 in total which will be delivered tomorrow... now today!... I finally can get to make up the 🌈 fabric into scrub tops.... Iíve only had it sitting here for last few months!
Had late
dinner of ham with all salad left from the W/end....
Watched some tv and retired to bed...

Another day disappears.... just wondering what Tuesdays briefing will bring.... think we all probably know the answers to that!

Viktoria- hope the new paint is more suitable this time and you can get your room done...
Glad to hear youíve got an appointment with your eye consultant hope itís soon and you will be sorted..
Dropping jigsaws is a right pain in the you know what! OH not too pleased we had to move his so we could eat at the table on Saturday....heíd done all the outside and started to get the camels done. ( desert scene with lots sand pyramids, camels) we slid it onto a piece of card... but it didnít quite make it smoothly so lot of muttering! I mean whatís a dining table for if not to eat off!
My daughter lives in Ealing and the trees in the park are full of parakeets, sometimes they come into their garden... what a racket they make too!
We have a little bunch of sparrows in our gardens... noisy little things... squabbling on the roof, eating the tips off next doors wisteria!

Hope you have a nice cuppa and read...
Tomorrow we will know whatís next for us all...

The Stay Safe Board / Diary - Sunday 20th September
« on: Sunday 20 September 20 23:38 BST (UK)  »
Last to write on Saturday so thought Iíd try and get in first for Sunday....

Awake pretty early this morning as I could hear the boys chattering... lovely to know theyíre in the house and to hear their voices...
As expected the Lego was out in their bedroom and they were creating monster trucks!
Downstairs to get a cuppa in before being bombarded with requests for breakfast...
Everyone downstairs and itís not even 8am.....
SIL out for his usual 9km run he does when theyíre up here... nice for him to be able to do that in the countryside rather than town pavement bashing...
After breakfast the boys were out in the garden checking out grandpas veg patch whilst we sat around chatting and drinking tea...
Thought about going out to Grafham water but the boys were enjoying playing tennis in the garden.. T in tennis team at home and even since coming up here a month ago heís improved no end.... so had J now seems to be able to concentrate more readily and is getting on well... very competitive boys!
It was great to be outside all the time, weather was warm, not to hot and gentle breeze...
We had a bbq for lunch.... managing to eat virtually all salad stuff Iíd got... home grown tomatoes, lettuce, beetroot, courgettes, potatoes, spring onions...
J as the youngest always keen to try anything new and decided he quite liked gherkins with his venison burger!
Dessert was cake made by my daughter.... Mary Berry recipe.. cardamom flavoured cake with white chocolate icing and the top covered with raspberries, strawberries and blueberries.... she had put some candles on but the breeze blew them out before she managed to get from the kitchen to outside.... we decided that blowing them out wasnít a good idea anyway so we just cut it up and ate it... very tasty it was too...
They left to go home at about 4.15.... sad to see them go and not be able to give them a hug or kiss goodbye... donít know if theyíll be able to come up next month for OHís big birthday..... all depends on Boris and his next decree....
Once theyíd left, sanitised all the rooms theyíd used, stripped the beds, sorted out all the flowers Iíve received into now 3 big vases...
Froze the raspberries J and I had picked that theyíd forgotten to take home.... only to discover Iíd not closed the freezer door and it was all iced up... as itís an old fridge/freezer that has to be defrosted that was my next job!.... needed like a hole in the head...
More tidying up in the fridge with left overs...
Got a message to say theyíd arrived home.... takes them about two hours... and I hadnít sat down from the time theyíd left till message received...
Just had toast as certainly eaten enough today...Darenít get on scales in the am...
OH watched US Masters golf... I read papers...
The end of a busy week but an enjoyable one...
Next week I suspect back to earth and what ever new restrictions are coming... oh joy!

Hope others days have been ok too
