Essex / Where has my post gone?
« on: Tuesday 04 October 22 19:46 BST (UK)  »
I asked a question earlier today about William Sandell in Essex in the 16th century. I asked if someone could check a will that is available on SEAX. Now my question has disappeared. Has it been deleted? Why?

Technical Help / Trouble accessing Lincolnshire Archives Catalogue
« on: Wednesday 28 September 22 12:48 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone able to access this site? When I click on the link on the right - Lincolnshire Archives online catalogue - all I get is 'this site can't be reached'.

It was working this morning but not now.

The Common Room / Re: Find a PCC will
« on: Tuesday 20 September 22 08:11 BST (UK)  »
I often use the Discovery index and then try to find the will on Ancestry. Often the Ancestry index is gibberish. An example I just saw today: I was looking for William Twynyho, and finally found him on Ancestry indexed as "Gittins Elbynyhs". ???

Is it this one? If you don't have access to Ancestry, you can sign in and get a pdf copy for free.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: 1412 William Bullyng and others

There is a long list of what property each defendant (all tenants) is supposed to give back (reddat) to Thomas Horne and Margery his wife, all in Appledore.
William Bullyng is supposed to give back seven acres of (arable) land with appurtenances in the same town (Appledore).

It wasn't only along rivers. Inning is often encountered around Romney Marsh.

It would appear that William Beaumont's wife was Elizabeth, the daughter of George Bull.

This is from SEAX:
William Beaumont and w. Elizabeth Henry cooper and w. Mary, Charles Phillips and w. Mary, the ladies being daughter of George Bull (30 October 1762)
https://www.essexarchivesonline.co.uk/result_details.aspx?ThisRecordsOffSet=1&id=171258

And this is from the will of George Bull of Sawbridgeworth, maltster:
to my daughter Elizabeth wife of William Beaumont the sum of one hundred pounds.
