The Stay Safe Board / Re: Contact tracing, a rant

It’s to be trialled on the Isle of Wight and everybody is to be encouraged to download it.

Please will someone tell our gov. that not everyone has, or can afford, or can use the necessary smartphone and associated unlimited access contract.

Mike
A subset of people have smart phones
A subset of smart phone owners will use the app
One point of the TRIAL is to determine if that will be enough to be effective.

Just because you aren't in that subset doesn't invalidate the trial any more than the fact that I don't ride a bike makes cycle lanes useless.

Start the day with the big decision. Which fields to walk across for today's exercise?

Come across one of the regulars from our market day bus and, keeping a safe distance, actually have some human interaction. That really perks me up for the rest of the day.

For lunch put a pack of frozen teriyaki noodles in the microwave, then remember that there is some cold lamb in the fridge. Hopefully that will last until tomorrow.

After lunch spend some time on a course at FutureLearn and order some food and wine from a local deli which should be delivered tomorrow.

The one thing I always wanted to know is what cut is salt beef made from, is it from the brisket ?

John

I believe so. All the recipes I find online use it.

It needs a wide, deep pan to do the brining in, as the meat is not rolled up as is typical UK practise.
Too much trouble to do at home as its a big piece of meat and really needs to be eaten warm. I did get palmed off with pressed brisket once, definitely not the same. A good cafe will have a slab of meat on the hot plate ready to cut.

My ultimate comfort food is one to buy from any good Kosher cafe (and a few good goyisch ones too) in London. Large chunks of hand cut salt beef on thick slices of rye bread with plenty of gherkins and mustard. Sadly not available at the moment.

At home Chiltern Brewery barley wine fruit cake. I always order a couple along with my beer delivery.

I don't use FB but I tried to contact an old school friend on LinkedIn and got a polite reply which was effectively the well known mis-quotation of Genesis 1:22

Morning  - exercise walk
Afternoon - Sit in the back garden with a glass of beer, a copy of P G Wodehouse and a repeat of TMS on the radio.
Exchange emails with friends who I would have seen at a cancelled music festival.

Had deliveries from the local brewery and one from the deli including a veg box yesterday. Today I had to pick up a prescription. Town was about as busy as 4pm on a Monday as it was market day. The greengrocer had taped lines down the high street for their queue as had Boots.

Short queue for Boots while Waitrose's was shorter than Sainsbury's but still long enough. It was nice to chat with strangers in both queues, while remaining 2 metres apart of course. Waitrose was out of frozen peas but otherwise I could get everything I wanted.

Lunch - ham salad with some Waitrose olive bread. Tonight a Chinese ready meal will make a nice change.

I was considering going out just before dawn but slept badly so got up at my usual time.

Took a longer than normal exercise walk taking me off the normal dog walking circuit. Saw my second bluebell of the year, took a photo to post on Twitter. The sky was perfectly clear which would never normally happen, there were always several contrails visible in former days.

Scrambled eggs for lunch, followed by ordering beer and a veg box for Easter. Afternoon dozing in the sun with a copy of P G Wodehouse.

Technical Help / Re: Printer misbehaving!
« on: Saturday 04 April 20 10:32 BST (UK)  »
I had a similar problem when printing from mailmerge. If I just clicked on print everything went to top left but when I clicked on print preview it showed the correct layout and printing from that screen was fine.

Also check that you are trying to print on the correct size paper.
