The death cert would have the place where he died.

On the photo he also has at least one Overseas Service Chevron on his right sleeve.
So the photo was taken 1918 or afterwards.

I think your grandad was Carpenter in the RAF.
On his record is CARP in the Trade column, CARP also appears in some of the Special Qualifications.
The Miles Magister was constructed from plywood.

One of the aircraft at No. 7 (Pilots) Advancing Flying Unit could have been a Miles Master.
This could be why Master in 1944 is one of the Special Qualifications.
