Family History Beginners Board / Adopted G-Grandmother in Canada

Via family stories and in her Quebec marriage record, I have a g-grandmother adopted by a French Canadian family who was born Scottish and orphaned on their journey to Canada in the 1830s. I believe she may have been born about 1835, but I need to know where I should look for an adoption record in order to find her Scottish roots. I've tried reading some of the notary records in early Quebec, but have not found anything.
