London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: chauveau of clerkenwell
« on: Thursday 16 August 18 09:30 BST (UK)  »
Hoople, Regarding your original question, I have a bit more information if there's still interest:
Louis Nicholas Chauveau b.1835 at Quarre les Tombes, Yonne, France.
Father, Louis Elisabeth b.1806 at Quarre, d.1862 Asnieres sur Seine.  Mother, Pierrette Boussard b. 1809 at Quarre. Siblings, Marie Louise b.1843, Eugene Marie b.1848
Louis Nicholas married Jane Watkins (b.1832 at Knighton d.1877) at Asnieres where Jane was working as maid.
They had 4 children, my great grandfather Louis George (b.1860 Knighton, d.1935 Liverpool),
Edward John (b.1865 St Johns, London d. 1948 Cardiff), Lucien Eugene (b.1867 Clerkenwell, London d.1867 Paris aged 2 months),
Alfred William (b.1868 Knighton, d.1870). No record of Louis Nicholas death or burial found yet, but the other records are in my Ancestry.com page including marriage record, please contact me for details.
There appears to be a separate dynasty of Louis Nicholas Choveauxs named after each other, continuing to the present day originally from London which muddies the waters. The Jane Baalam marriage may be to one of these.
Cheers, Dan

Hi David, thanks for that new information, much appreciated.
I've managed to progress some way into the Chauveau records thanks to Quarre les Tombes
entries in the http://archivesenligne.yonne-archives.fr and online Paris archives
It is amazing that these are free to access once you figure out where to look!

Yes, agreed although he must have been established in UK before that.
The first son Louis George was born in Knighton in 1860 and Edward John in London 1865

Yes BumbleB that's correct - those documents are the ones that name Louis Nicholas and Jane together, but they are not shown on a census together

Hi Jorose, Yes it's the same man
Louis Nicholas Chauveau (Glassblower, Glass Globe maker, Paper Dyer)
born c. 1836 at unknown location
Lived in Clerkenwell in 1860s married to Jane Watkins
Their children are
Louis George b. 1860, Edward John b. 1865, Lucien Eugene b. 1867
and isn't on any census himself though wife and kids are

But....this doesn't seem to be the same Louis Nicholas Choveaux (other spellings)
born 1833 in St Johns Wood (whose father was also L N and had a son L N)
and who is well recorded in Census records from a young man as a clerk in the War Office
living throughout with wife Anne Clara Farrell
To add more confusion there appears to be a Louis Chauveau m. Jane Baalham around at the same time

Thanks
