Hi
Im hoping some one can help me find Minnie Moore and her parents. Her father on her marriage certificate is William Moore, Farm Labourer.  She married John Smith in Hensall in Heck, Pontefract on the 1st March 1911.  And is on the 1911 census as living in Balne with her husband John.  She is 20 yrs and was born in York, Yorkshire.
The problem is I cannot find her on any census before her marriage or any listing of a Minnie Moore born in York around 1890.
Any help would be appreciated
Joolz

Hi Dolly

Ive looked at the names in the bible and what little info Ive found about the Best family and Im afraid there isnt an Isabella or Nathaniel Best mentioned.

This family came from Middleton Tyas, Yorkshire which is near Richmond, it  is 25 miles from  Middleton In Teesdale which is in Co Durham near Barnard Castle.  So its not so far away, there could be some connection.

George was born 1794 North Cowton, Yorkshire and was a blacksmith.  His father was John Best.  Geroge and Margaret had 3 sons( 2 died young and 1 without marrying at 32) and 5 daughters.  I suppose this is why I managed to pick up their family bible in a second had book shop about 25 years ago.

Happy Hunting

Hi

I have an old large leather bound family bible which belonged to the Best family from Middleton Tyas, Yorkshire.  The inscription on the bible is G & M Best 1830.  On inner pages it has birth and death dates for family members covering 2/3 generations.

Is  anyone is researching this family?

Hi Linda

Heres another link to Wheatley Hill.  It has links to Thornley and Ludworth, with pictures and history of the villages and people.
