Technical Help / Re: Gmail welcome page
« on: Saturday 25 January 25 18:25 GMT (UK)  »
Facebook recently started this 2 step verification with illegible scrambled letters and numbers often making me go through the same procedure several times and also emailing me to confirm that it is I who has signed in.
The Buffs, (my local football team) has a Facebook page and when I click on their link the opening page offers me the opportunity to Sign into Facebook, without 2 step verification, and after checking the scores I click on the 'home icon' and I am into my Facebook page, without verification.  Some security system eh!?  is it AI?
cheers, Ian

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Catherine (Kate) MORIARTY Dingle, Kerry Ireland
« on: Sunday 05 January 25 11:30 GMT (UK)  »
I received a brief reply from Dan Moriarty, fuller details soon though.
"There are lots of Dan Moriarty’s in Kerry. Dingle is about 50 miles from where my grandfather’s family originate from. "
We took a Coach Holiday 10 years ago to the South West of Ireland and noticed several shops with the Moriarti name.  It's a pity Dan's father Dan has passed so I can't ask him of his memories of their Irish origins even though he was also born in Scotland.
cheers, Ian (possibly a distant cousin through marriages)

My youngest  sister is married to Daniel Moriarti (y).  His father was also Daniel, owner of 2 shops in Irvine, North Ayrshire, Scotland.   Although Scottish for several generations he has cousins in the Dingle / Kerry area and his Aunt, who is into Genealogical Research, lives in USA.  I have emailed him the link to this thread, perhaps there is a connection ... cheers, Ian

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Heinz Schaub of Sissach, Basle, Switzerland
« on: Tuesday 17 September 24 10:48 BST (UK)  »
My daughter did a DNA test with My23&me and I did one with Ancestry.  A very curious connection appears with a Schaub in USA who changed his surname to Walker.  In the 1960s our family knew a Heinz Schaub from Basle who hitch-hiked around Scotland and stayed with us for a few days and again in later years.  I've become suspicious of the circumstances of his visit, way too much of a co-incidence, I suspect he may have incorporated an ancestral connection to investigate whilst he was hiking around Britain.  Perhaps several generations back there would be a DNA connection to the Nelson or Gooch or Tubby families of Norfolk, England.   Anybody any ideas how to find out more ... I've Googled Schaub of Sissach and there's a lot of them.  regards, Ian

A long shot but worth a punt.   Wilson of Forth & Wilsontown in Lanarkshire were coal pit owners and Ironfounders.  An extended family and members went to England as successful merchants in London & Liverpool and did import / export with Russia & Sweden.  One of them was the founder  the famous Price's Candles  company.   I'm trying to prove connections with Wilsons as Solicitors in Broughton and Preston and Rawcliffe Hall as well as a Banker from Sussex.
There is plenty of info on all of it with a Google Search
cheers, Ian
