Thank you so much bleckie.

Using your suggested search I found him on the first try !!!

It also didn't cost me anything because I found a website that gave you 10 free credits if you signed up for their newsletter.  A double win I would say.   ;D ;D

Thanks again.

Lanarkshire / Thomas McDonald born Motherwell COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 05 February 12 08:30 GMT (UK)  »
I am not familiar with researching within Scotland and am trying to help a friend find a birth registration for her grandfather Thomas McDonald.

The 1891 Scotland Census for P.D. Dalziel, Motherwell gives his ages as 1 born Motherwell.
The 1901 Scotland Census for P.D. Dalziel, Motherwell gives his age as 10 born Motherwell.
The date of birth given on his Canadian W.W. 1 Attestation Papers was September 29, 1890 place of birth  Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

His parents were James McDonald and Mary Calder (widow) mn Boyd.  They were married April 2, 1888 in the District of Holytown.

Members of the family think it is very possible that he was actually born less than nine months after the wedding making his birth before January 1889.  The only consistant fact they have found is that he was born in Motherwell.

Although he was known in early life as Thomas McDonald the name his parents used, his children in Canada all grew up as MacDonald. The family has no idea why this change was made.

Any help you could give in finding this birth registration would be very gratefully appreciated.

Thank you.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Asking big favour . COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 20 December 11 08:37 GMT (UK)  »
I just received a Christmas card from my youngest daughter which included a picture of my five year old grand daughter.

I knew that she looked very much like her mother but was surprised when I saw the picture and realized how much like a picture of her mother it was.

Long story short, as I don't feel this is really all that appropriate to ask:  if anyone is willing to do some repairs to the picture of the mother so that I can put the pictures in a double frame as a terrific surprise Christmas present could you please pm me?

I would be so very grateful.   :D ;D

What religion is FC?

According to this website:

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canon/research-topic-church-religion.html

The Census abbreviation of FC stands for Free Church an off-shoot of Presbyterian.

Canada / Re: Scott AITKEN (AITKIN) - Margaret JAMIESON

Do you know for a fact that Margaret's last name was Jamieson?  Jamieson was her mother's maiden name according to Margaret's death registration.

Hey J.J. , how you doing?

He got it from the death registration.  But it probably wasn't  her last name as it was her mothers maiden name.
