Rocket is an unusual middle name to have!

Probably a clue to his fathers surname  ;D

It absolutely is! :P There was a Mr Rockett in the same area at the time.

Hello all.
I don't really know where to start!

My Great Grandmother was Beatrice Seaward b.1903 - d.1961 born in Stapleton Workhouse, Bristol
her mother was Lilian Sarah Jane Seward b.1878 - d.1967 (I can't be sure who Beatrice's father was)
Beatrice's grandparents are James Seward b.1848 and Sarah Jane Bailey b.1848

Beatrice had at least one sibling, Perceval Rocket Seward who was born illegitimately.
Lilian had 6 Siblings:
Ada Ann b.1870
Henry E b.1872
Sidney W b.1875
James G b.1880
Alfred E b.1883
Winifred M b.1890

Beatrice was Raised by Kate Beer and Ernest Sandford. Kate was a nurse and took in Beatrice from birth. (Part of me suspects that Ernest was the biological father)
After Beatrice married Clifford Ernest Carpenter, she named her son Clifford Sandford Carpenter.

Ideally I would love to hear from any descendants of the above to see if I can discover more about Beatrice and the family in general. I would love to know if she ever got in touch with the family by letter or otherwise, but suspect I'll never know.

Many thanks in advance,

Pete Carpenter

Are these related to Carpenter's in Forest of Dean, late 18th Century to mid 19th Century please ?

Hi there. I can't say for sure as I haven't really expanded every avenue of the family as yet, but I don't believe so.

Cheers

Hi all,

Update is that I have now received Beatrices birth certificate and her mother is Lilian Sarah Jane Seward, the father section is (unsurprisingly) blank.

The first time I see her using Sandford is when she gave it as her maiden name at her wedding. My Grandfather was also given Sandford as his middle name so it must have meant something to her. I find this odd as Ernest Sandford died when she was still very young (7 years old) unless she knew that he was her biological father?

Thoughts?

And thank you

Hi All,

Hopefully some of you helpful people can point me in the right direction!
I am trying to find out details of the parents of Thomas Carpenter born in Bradford on Tone in abt. 1739 and died in the alms house of Wellington, Somerset in 1821.

I am pretty confident of these dates from using freeReg and cross referencing against verifiable sources in my own tree.

I can't seem to find a marriage record for his parents (Thomas and Sussanah) or a baptism record for his Father Thomas; despite searching a broader time scale and extending the search into neighbouring counties.
This gives me the inclination that perhaps they moved into the area sometime between marriage and having Thomas? Would that be a fair assumption?

What would you try next?

Many thanks in advance!

Pete Carpenter

EDIT: Apologies all, I let my frustration get the better of me! I believe that I have now found the correct record. m. 1734 to Susannah Tucker. Very happy for feedback if this is found to be off the mark though AND I would still love find a record of his bith/baptism!

I’d be looking for a nearby Mr Rockett in the first instance  :)

Ah! I see! Do you think Percy and Beatrice shared a father?
Why would Lilian not keep Beatrice as she had Percy do you think?
This will doubtless never be known fully!

There are a few ROCKETT men* in Bristol , Clifton, Barton Regis and other places.  I wonder which one was the father!

NO - not Elton John!  ;D

;D

Yes, sorry Philip - I had not fully digested all that you had done on Lilian :)
No need for apologies.  I hope I didn't seem rude (I certainly didn't intend to)  :)
I'm off to hunt for Lilian in 1911 and see what else I can find

Yep, that's the same as I found too! (I have no idea how to find census refs I'm afraid!) Makes me wonder what kind of life Lilian had!

Also, I only discovered today that Beatrice had step siblings (our family never knew) and now she has a half brother as well! wow
