United States of America / Alexander MCCOMBIE arr New York April 1871
« on: Monday 22 November 21 01:48 GMT (UK)  »
Grateful if some kind person is able to check passenger arrival records into New York around 29 April 1871.
I am looking for an Alexander McCombie born c 1852, Scotland.
I am seeking to find out:
- did he travel on his own?
- also whether a Jane McCombie or Jane Taylor (born c 1846 New Deer, Scotland) accompanied him?

I don't have access to Ancestry USA/Canada records.
Many thanks

Thanks Kay99, ColC and Forfarian for your postings and information.
This is very much appreciated.
Yes, I am aware of the need to be careful of the information that appears in family trees on the various websites.
I will now close my request.

Angus (Forfarshire) / Bruce STRACHAN died 1999
« on: Thursday 04 November 21 04:22 GMT (UK)  »
Grateful if someone is able to help with details of the parents of Bruce STRACHAN who was born in 1938, Dundee, Angus, Scotland and died in 1999 (details from Ancestry Family Tree).  I don't have access to Scotland People.
The Ancestry Family Tree lists his parents as William Strachan and Agnes (surname unknown).
I have checked FindMyPast with no success.

I have contacted the owner of the Family Tree but so far have not received a response.

Any assistance very much appreciated.

Many thanks Hillhurst for your posting.
I wonder why his death has not been included in the NZ DIA Death Index.  I will check with DIA to see what I can find out.
Thanks again

Armed Forces / Crimean War Vet? John KEDZLIE died 1892 Oamaru, NZ
« on: Wednesday 22 September 21 00:40 BST (UK)  »
I am assisting NZRA Waitaki with research on a John KEDZLIE who died in Oamaru, New Zealand on 11 February 1892.  He is buried in an unmarked grave in the Oamaru Old Cemetery.
He was admitted to hospital on 30 January 1892 and his hospital admission record states that he was 65 years of age (born c 1827) and born in Scotland.  He had been in New Zealand for 31 years (arrived c 1861) and was a Labourer.
His death does not appear in the NZ DIA Death Index for 1892.  I have not yet checked the 1892 Death microfiche to see if his death is recorded.
The North Otago Times newspaper states "that John Kedzlie, a Crimean medallist and pensioner who died in Oamaru Hospital the other day was a man of some means.  He just had pounds 5,000 left to him by a relative in England" - he had been receiving an allowance from the same person. Source: The "Colonist" newspaper 23 February 1892, Page 4.
Can anybody help to confirm that he was a Crimean medallist and what Regiment he was in?
If so if may be possible to arrange for a headstone for his grave.

Please note: He is not the same John Kedzlie born 30 July 1821 Musselburgh, near Edinburgh who married in 1854 to Elizabeth Cossar in Sydney, Australia and who died in 1903 in NZ.  John and Elizabeth came to NZ on the ship "Thomas and Henry" and arrived on 12 May 1856.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
