I only got the Ballygilbert info from the Ros Davies site. They moved to Crofthead sometime before 1841 and after he died in 1850 his wife and children emigrated to the states at different times. Apart from Ralph Junior who came here to Australia. And 1 of Thomas Blacks children William which is how I came to be.
The Johnston Black you mention could very well be connected I thought at the time Johnston was an odd name for that time but considering they passed the names down through the family this has to be a connection. How many Johnston Blacks would there be in that area?
As for Eliza Jane, I thought the birth record I have with her father James Irwin was correct until I found her death records and the parents are Samuel and Catherine, looks like last name is Irving. Spelling error most likely.
This is all very interesting and I will be looking at this further today and hopefully on my trip to Ireland in October and checking the records at Proni I can finally get confirmation about the mysterious Ralph Black.
