Pembrokeshire / Abercastle, Mathry, Pembrokeshire. Cemetery?
« on: Wednesday 29 March 17 21:48 BST (UK)  »
My Gt Gt Grandfather died in Abercastle on the Pembrokeshire coast near Mathry. Is there anyone in that area who could tell me where the cemetery for that hamlet is located. I know there is gravestone and it overlooks the sea but have no further information. Also is there or was there a church or chapel in Abercastle.
Thanks.

Hello
Thanks for the message and nice to hear from you. The previous posts on this topic were written in 2012. Since then I have moved to live in North Wales and learnt a lot more about the family. I had a lovely afternoon visiting your brother and sister-in-law in Talysarn recently. Until I spoke to them I had assumed that William Roberts had died without having children. I knew about your family as you visited us in Barry in the 1960's but I thought you must have descended from another of great-grandmother, Hannah Roberts' children. Since my visit to Talysarn when I also visited Catherine Roberts I have learned more about Hannah Roberts (born Williams) and her roots at Plas Llecheiddior, Bryncir. When I get round to updating the tree properly I plan to send a link to your brother so that they can view it -I can also send to you if you wish.  I actually don't have a name for William Roberts' wife on the family tree -it would be good to fill that in.
I have found nothing more about the Roberts' line --apart from the fact that great grandfather was Robert Roberts and that he died in his 40's. Do you know any more?

Cardiganshire / Davies/ Aberarth area. Request for help re gravestone.

I have found an old photo of my great grandparents gravestone but even when I expand the photo the smaller writing is blurred. I think the grave is in a chapel cemetery in the Aberarth area. I thought it worth asking if anyone is familiar with cemeteries in the area and could identify the grave and tell me what the wording is. I would be eternally grateful! (I am OK with translating the Welsh -I am doing classes at the moment). I am attaching the photo. Many thanks.

The Common Room / Missing birth record.
« on: Thursday 11 July 13 18:46 BST (UK)  »
Just wondering if anyone has any advice.
My father in law, born in 1914 and deceased in 2000 only ever had a 'short' birth certificate. We would like to obtain the full certificate to help with researching that side of the family but there is no record of his birth on GRO index or on Ancestry (to which I subscribe). Has anyone got any suggestions ? Is the GRO index online always accurate?
Maybe he was adopted and if so does anyone know how to go about getting an adoption certificate. The curious thing is that  when I put in a search on Genes-reunited website  they appear to have a birth record but I would have to pay to see it and am suspicious as to why they would have a copy and not the official source. Does anyone use that website and is it reliable -if so I suppose I could subscribe for a month just to see what they have.
Any help or advice gratefully received!

Hello
I just read your post - did you find the information you wanted?  If not I will ask around as we have just moved ro Rowen (referred to as Roe Wen in the past).

I went over to Llanllyfni area today--unfortunately the Salem cemetery was locked so will have to go back. I visited the War Memorial at Nebo and the date of death also says 15th Sept,
The family were at Pant Gwyn through the 1890's and still there on 1901 census--there were 13 children born in all of which 6 survived infancy, On the 1911 census there are 2 sons left living with their widowed mother Hannah--ie Robert and William -however their address is recorded as the PO, Nasareth- not sure though if they lived at the Post Office or whether they collected post there as Pant Gwyn was a bit remote.
I don't have any S Wales addresses for William. My grandfather ended up in Mountain Ash near Aberdare which is not really very close to Abertillary but I guess they went where the work could be found.

Thanks again.
I looked at the CWGC webste a while ago and also concluded that the William Roberts that you refer to is most likely to be him. My grandfather was his older brother and had by then moved to South Wales to work in the coal mines -so -he may well have done the same. The grave memorial says he died on 15th Sept 1915 but I believe that the regiment was involved in a majore offensive on 15th Sept and he may have been injured in the battle and died on 25th.
One day I hope to trace some family members that descend from another brother and maybe they will have more details as they stayed in the Pen y Groes area.
Thanks also to Tall Al--I will check that grave too.
