Sussex / Re: William Gorringe born or christened 30.10.1767 in Ringmer, East Sussex

HI,
Thank you for your reply to my thread, if you look back to the thread dated 31st October 2016, there is a rather lot of information that I wrote regarding the William Gorringe born 1767, who married Hannah Jenner in 1791 in East Grinstead, and had William Gorringe born 1792 in Ringmer. Obviously, this is my line, and I am desperate to trace the two children mentioned in the will of William Gorringe born 1745, and died in 1835. He states, "I leave to my late son William's three children, two boys and a girl" etc, etc. Now, we know of William born in 1792 as being one of the three children, but who are the other two, and who was their Mother??
Any information gratefully received.
Many thanks, I look forward to your reply.
Carol

Are you sure the Will is for the William bn 1745 - could it be for the one bn 1767?
Hi,
Thank you for your interest, the will is definitely for William Gorringe born 1745, written in 1829, and proved in 1835, when he was nearly ninety in Glynde.

Carol,it's probably best if you start a new thread with the different surname and part of the country for your latest request. Many people on here have different skills and access to different info, you are limiting the people viewing this posting by adding it to an old one.

Report to moderator and ask for this one to be moved to a new board.

Sussex / William Gorringe born or christened 30.10.1767 in Ringmer, East Sussex

Hi Maureen,
Before I set you another challenge, can you tell me whereabouts in the world you live? You have a wonderful depth of research and knowledge, and a blessing to want to help others like me.
Here is my challenge ........
William Gorringe born or christened 30.10.1767 in Ringmer, East Sussex, parents were William Gorringe and Fanny Finch.
William Gorringe born 1767 married Hannah Jenner, on 5th June 1791 in East Grinstead, Hannah was christened on 24.11.1765 in East Grinstead, East Sussex.
Together, they had William Gorringe, christened in Ringmer on 20th May 1792. Sadly, Hannah Gorringe died on 27th December 1792, a few months after little William (1792) was born, and he died in Brighton, East Sussex on 27th January 1853.
Here comes the exciting bit??!! A will was written by William Gorringe (b1745), dated 1829, saying, "I leave to my late son's three children, two boys and a girl" etc , etc. Now, we know William (1767) married and became a widow in 1792, and I know that William Gorringe (b1792) died in Brighton in 1853.
So between 1792 and 1829, William either remarried or lived with another women, and had one boy and one girl, apart from little William born in 1792. After extensive researches trying to find a William Gorringe as marrying anyone??, I came up with a William Gorringe as marrying a Sarah Thatcher in Glynde, St Mary's, in 1804/5. But from that date on, I can find nothing out about any children born to the couple, or whether in fact my William was the right person who married Sarah Thatcher, and just to add insult to injury, his Father William's wife was also a Sarah??!! There are many William Gorringe's as dying in that area or surrounding areas, and there is one who died in 1822, but he has been claimed and verified by another researcher.
So, Oh GREAT one, what do you make of this brick wall?
Any help as usual will be gratefully welcomed, and maybe one day I could thank you in person?
Regards, and look forward to hearing from you again.

Could this possibly be him?
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JDK9-NNY

I can't find a passenger list for him but I did notice that one daughter (Elizabeth Eliza HARDING) moved to Ontario about 1911.

Maureen

Hi Maureen,
I don't know how you did it, but I can not thank you enough for your wonderful input. I thought I was never, ever, going to find this death, and from what I see on the details, this is my EDWARD, as his Father was Alexander and of course his wife was Eliza. Eliza must have come back to England after Edward's death and lived with one of her children. Can you tell whether Elizabeth and her husband John Harding stayed in Canada?
You are an angel in disguise, thank you so much.
Regards and eternal thanks,
Carol

I'm beginning to wonder if he went abroad and died outside England.

Bevjj

That could include Ireland or Scotland of course.

Where were all his kids living,if mum moved in with one and died there in 1919.

Hi,

The majority of children were living in the Croydon area, except of course the one in the Brentford area. I know this is going to sound strange, I have tried to do a time line for Edward, and the last time I knew he was alive, was at my Grandmother's marriage in 1904, he was a witness, and his name is on the 1911 census, which I believe was taken in the September of that year. I did wonder whether Eliza just put his name down as a matter of fact!!??
As far as I know, the family hardly ever moved away from the Croydon area, so was amazed to find Eliza dead in Brentford!
Over to you, and thanks for your interest.

Free BMD has the death of an Edward J Tulk, aged 72, registered in Chertsey in Dec Q 1913.

That's the closest I can find, but not entirely convincing.
Hi,
I have a birth for a Edward j Tulk, born in 1841, in the registration district of Cockermouth, Cumberland. So this Edward must have died in the Chertsey registration district in 1913, aged 72.
Thanks anyway.

Quote
and by the time Eliza died in 1919

There is no Eliza Tuck death in Croydon in 1919 so where did Eliza die?
Eliza died in the Brentford registration district, I believe she was living with one of her children at the time of her death!?
Thanks,
Carol
