The other interesting factor is that his wife Maria was recorded as a Widow in the 1861 census. I am beginning to believe that he died at sea as I have found no death records

I found a record on Family search referring to William Williams born 1815 recorded in the Merchant Navy 1845 to 1854 (ref BT 113). It may explain why he was not on the 1851 census. Wondered if I could get more info on this. ManyThanks

I have found William on the 1841 census living with his father mother and siblings in Portsmouth Hampshire. He is a carpenter like his father.

I have looked up marriage registrations on Family Search A possibility of spouse is Marriage at Monmouth 1847. Vol 26, Page 133, line 36. Either Elizabeth Davies or Elizabeth Powell. It also mentions Thomas Williams which is his fathers name.
