Hi Keith
Yes I did find out about John Shenton’s fatal accident.  I would appreciate a copy of the report one day.  Catherine’s family split after the 1841 census - something happened at Atcham to do with the Earl who squandered his money and left his staff jobless.  So Catherine went to B’ham and married John Shenton.  The rest I think went to Cardiff to find work and did OK as market gardeners, many are buried at Llandaff Cathedral.  Did you know Catherine’s sister Letitia met up with some Latter Day Saints and got a free passage to America. I have more details here and am in touch with a relative of Letitia.
I’m wondering if Catherine and her family got involved with the Peaky Blinders as they lived in one of the streets in the 1850s etc. I have Carl Chinn’s book about them and wouldn’t be surprised.  I could send you the book if you like as I’ve read it now, if you don’t already have it.
It’s all very interesting isn’t it?
Best wishes
Diana

Hi Keith
How sad that Amy died so young, but what a wonderful woman your gran was to bring up all those children as a single mum.  Hard times.   Our Catherine too had a struggle bringing up seven children on her own when John died at 45.  Our family were all hard workers, all skilled with large families.

Hi Keith
Thanks for info. My family tree is slightly different ...
John Shenton m Catherine Stanley
They had a son Benjamin b 1861
He married Gulielma Hunt
They had a son Benjamin b 1893

This is where it’s different. My research showed
Benjamin m Amy Annie Caines b 1894 Oct 1912 Aston (B’ham Marriages & Banns)
No children, he died 1926, Amy died 1918
On the 1911 census Benjamin was a private Royal Warwickshire Regiment

Benjamin’s sister Martha m John James Pratt.
They had a daughter Florence, my grandma

There are too many Benjamins!   Ben Stanley b 1791 was head gardener at Attingham Park (at Atcham where they all lived) and on a board there he is listed as having 14 children whilst being a gardener there - one of them our Catherine.   So we are related!
Do you have any info re your Florence.   Get back to me if you are interested.
Regards-and Happy New Year

Oh wow, thank you.  This is keeping me busy.  Keith says Benjamin and Elizabeth married 1814 Liverpool - I can’t find a record, any idea?

Absolutely - thanks for all info.  We live in Shropshire so I can see a visit to Llandaff in the near future - snow here at the moment, very pretty!  Lovely warm sunshine where you are I guess.
Many thanks

Hi Trish
Thank you thank you, how did you find that so quickly?   I was concerned as one contact on ancestry had added “killed with wife Elizabeth 1861 by ex employee”, so I need to disregard that I hope.   Buried in Llandaff Cathedral sounds much better!!
Loved profile picture, many congratulations.

Hello again

Just looked again at your request reBenjamin Stanley’s wedding.  Did you get any further?  I’m looking for any info re his death probably in Canton, Cardiff 1861. Various family contacts on ancestry have given 1861/63 but I can’t find a record.  Should I start a new thread on this site?  I’m stuck!!

Thanks
Diana
