I have looked at the baptismal records for the halligans james,mary, george.
they all have a witness sarah halligan. i have found a sarah and james halligan in the 1851 census.
do you think that this could be my great granddad?

the 1891 census has them living in 17 Dalton St.the 1901 8 Botanic st.the 1911 is maynard st Mary has now married thomas arthur allen. George Halligan and Caroline Brown marriage cert has James Halligan occupation as stone mason, but does not say that he is deceased, the 1901 census shows Jane Halligan as a widow. i will send for the birth cert of the children tomorrow.

It is a story that came down the family, my brother remembers grandfather george halligan telling him he sailed into liverpool as a young boy. he also told him the family were from drogheda louth
