Berwickshire / Re: Scottish naming pattern

Thank you so much for this info! Have you ever come across a name, that has middle names not associated (that I could find) with the family? For example, I have a 4x great aunt, that was christened by the name of Barbara Christopher Fardy Ferguson Weatherhead. The "Christopher Fardy Ferguson" part of the name confuses me as those names are not in the family tree, could this be a friend of the family or someone he worked with. Barbara's father was a sailor/mariner in the 18th century.

I found that if there was a fourth son it was named after the father's oldest brother, similarly fourth daughter named after it's mother's oldest sister.

A family I researched had eighteen children and I recognised many of the youngest children's names as being:-

(1) the father's employer and
(2) many of the mother's girl friends, who were daughters of influential locals..
(3) If a widower married again his new wife would name a daughter after the first wife if she had died prior to a daughter carrying her name.

Berwickshire / Scottish naming pattern

Hi there,

I was wondering if there are any Scottish naming patterns? Like naming the first born son based after the father's father..i.e. John Smith, son of James Smith and Jane Smith, James Smith's father's name was John Smith. Hope I explained that right..Thank you for your time.

Northumberland / Re: British naming patterns and missing death record

Her sister Elizabeth Jane married Anthony W R Wagner in 1871 shortly before her mothers death & died in Canada 1930 which makes me wonder if Barbara followed her to Canada sometime later

Thank you for all the info and the help! I should have mentionned that I have her parents information, her sister Elizabeth is my 4x great grandmother, Barbara did not come over here with her. Barbara (the mother) nee Russell was living at the workhouse with her son James in 1871 and she died not too long after. I can't find anything on Barbara (the daughter) or her son James after that. I am assuming she died between 1861 and 1871 OR she might have been a home child and sent somewhere? Any tips would be appreciated, thank you!

Northumberland / British naming patterns and missing death record
« on: Saturday 15 July 23 18:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi from Canada,

I am looking for my 2nd great grand aunt Barbara Christopher Fardy Ferguson Weatherhead 's death record. She was born in North Shields on the 13th of December 1854, but I can't find her after 1861 (cencus).

I was also wondering also if her middle names (Christopher Fardy Ferguson) are family names that would be relatives of the family? Just wondering if this is part of some British name pattern?

Thank you for your time.

Surrey / Looking for a photo of a Canadian soldier killed in Siclily in 1943
« on: Friday 10 June 22 11:46 BST (UK)  »
I am part of a group called Faces of Agira and we are looking for a photo of the Canadian soldier that was killed in action in Sicliy in 1943. He married Doris Westfold in 1943 in Osted, Surrey,
I am looking for descendants or relatives of Doris Evelyn Joyce Westfold. I could not find any evidence that she remarried or had any children with Joseph Daigle. If you can help or give me tip on how
to find any information, it would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time!
