Dublin / Re: Martinville Nursing home, 23 Corrig Avenue Dun Laoghaire

Hi, and thanks for your reply. (Sorry I've only just seen it now). Since I posted my original post back in 2017,  I found my mother Kitty Lyons and we had a great reunion and loads of meet-ups and visits.  She had a lot of  very good memories of her time working there at Martinville, and of your grandmother Nancy. Sadly Kitty passed away last year, but I was so lucky to have got to meet her.   She spoke very kindly of your grandmother, and of the help she gave her during that time.
We went to Deansgrange last year to pay our respects.
Kitty and Patrick (my father) got married a couple of years later and had three more children, (my sisters and brother) and I'm in regular contact with them.

Wexford / Murphys : Railway family from Wexford
« on: Wednesday 24 April 19 13:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello,  I'm just posting to see if there are any descendants of the Murphy family around.  Descendants of James C Murphy (1848-1909) or his brother Thomas Murphy (1849-1910).
My grandfather was Francis Xavier Murphy (son of James C Murphy) and I have been learning a bit about the family tree and how a lot of them worked for the railways in the Wexford and Wicklow areas.

James C Murphy would have been my great grandfather, and he married Bridget Winifred Byrne.
Thomas Murphy would have been my great grand uncle and he married Mary Lally Cosgrave (1851-1938) on 20/11/1870.  [her parents were Elizabeth Loughlin and William Cosgrave}

As far as I know James C Murphy was the station master of New Ross Train Station and he is buried in St Stephen's Cemetery.  (I am hoping to come down to visit this later this summer to try and locate his grave).

My grandfather was Francis Xavier Murphy 26/4/1891 - 9/5/1933 and he married my grandmother Elizabeth Enright on 3/3/1919.  He worked as an accountant with the railways and as far as I know a lot of the other family members worked for the railways.

One of my grandfather's sisters Sarah Murphy was born on 30/8/1877 in an area called Macmine in Co.Wexford and she married a Daniel Moran of Rosbercon New Ross on 29 November 1901, and they had a shop on Quay Street.  She died on 16/2/1912.

The rest of the Murphy family I know of are as follows :
Bridget Winifred  11/4/1872 - 13/9/1913  Married a Hugh Johnson Shearman in Westminster England in 1904
Mary  Born 22/3/1874
Ellen  Born 10/10/1875
Joseph 24/5/1879 - 11/10/1931
Thomas
James 11/12/1880 - 26/1/1958 Married a Bridget Mary Monahan
Stephen 13/9/1882 - September 1967 Married a Loreto Warren,   emigrated to the USA
Norah 7/5/1885 - 27/3/1978 Married a John Murphy on 5/9/17
Paul 1/12/1886 - 18/3/1913
Ambrose 5/10/1888 - 11/2/1971 married a Marie Bridget Curran.  At one stage he was the Principal of Poulfor National School   emigrated to the USA.

Of the children of Thomas Murphy and Mary Lally Cosgrave I know of
Joseph A Murphy  (died 1930, married a Sarah Mary Kehoe
Joseph F Murphy
William Murphy 1873 - 1931.  Married a May Hatton
James Murphy 1875 - 1896
Thomas P Murphy born around 1877
Thomas Murphy born around 1879 (I am not sure if perhaps these are the same person)
Elizabeth Murphy 1880 - 1849
Laurence Murphy 1882 - 1960 married a Mary F Ryan
Francis Murphy 1886 - 1946 Married an Annie Nolan
Edmund T Murphy 1889 - 1899

I'd be interested to see if anyone recognises any of them as their ancestors.

Thanks

Mike

Longford / Re: Sarah O'Connor, born 1889 in ballymahon,

Hi Mike,
I am new to genealogy and also interested in Sarah O'Connor born 1889, Ballymahon. I can find no record of a marriage or a death cert but I do know she had at least one child- a daughter- who was a relative of mine.

Thanks for the reply. I think she had a daughter  Elizabeth born in 1909,  and I believe I have a DNA link to one of her descendants through that line. (Though we can't be sure it's through that line, it might be through a different line altogether).  If you have done ancestry DNA of a any of the other DNA tests you can see if I come up as a match.

I don't have any marriage record for her.  I've checked Irish genealogy and family search.org and can't find any record.

Unfortunately she was in the workhouse in ballymahon, and they don't record the full names - just initials. There is one C B initial with a age of 35.  (And another aged 75).

I've found a Bridget Connor who died in 1903, aged 37. She is possibly Sarah's mother. Bridget is recorded on her death certificate as being from tipper (which I think is a townland in Longford). .  I am guessing her year of birth is around 1866.  I found several Bridget Connors born in 1866,. Though I don't know any way to narrow them down.

(I have a DNA match up to one of the descendants of Sarah and we are trying to work out the connection. I've been going through the various names to see if any match up with any of my ancestors - Keatings, Lyons, )

There is a Sarah Connor b 1889 registered Ballymahon but the link on Irish Genealogy is to the wrong image.

Yes,  I've notified them of that and hopefully they'll fix it during the next update.

Hello,  just wondering if anyone might help me find out some information about Sarah O'Connor born in 1889 in ballymahon, recorded on the 1911 census as working as a domestic for the garrahan family in cloonbreany Longford.
I have been trying to find a birth record for her that would show her parents names.
Very grateful if anyone could help. Thanks
