Hello Janice,
Thank you for your quick reply. This is all very exciting!!
James Leitch and Catherine Black are my 3x great grandparents (according to my family history software).
Their daughter Anne born 1839 married Peter Mitchell in Kilmodan 1863. I have found so far seven children - though some died in infancy.
Their daughter Isabella McLea Mitchell born 1870 married Robert Mclaws in Glasgow 1895. They had two children Peter and Elizabeth. Elizabeth married David Robertson who were my grandparents. Sadly Elizabeth died in her forties. However, they had three sons to which the eldest John, was my father. Sadly, all three sons have died. I'm an only child and I'm married to Ashley. We have no children but have one cat! My father's brothers Peter never married, but the youngest son Robert married and had two sons David and Christopher who are both younger than myself. I was born in 1958.
Like you, I have managed to find bits and pieces of the others and would be happy to exchange. Actually, I did find a marriage between an Andrew and Wilhelmina Chambers/Chalmers for 1859 Glasgow but as I hadn't come across a death cert for Andrew to confirm his parents, I wasn't sure.
I've recently come across some very interesting yet upsetting information about a Janet Leitch a possible sister to James Leitch (Catherine BLACK). Basically, a Janet Leitch married a Duncan Mackellar in Kilmodan in 1819. They have a least 4 children. I've never been able to find either of their death certificates to confirm parents etc. And I have never traced them through the census. However, I was contacted by Alasdair Broun who was interested in tracing the Mackeller's. He adviced that a Duncan MacKellar and a Janet Leitch were married and together with his Uncle, another Duncan MacKellar went to Australia in the 1820s. There, whilst nephew Duncan was 'up country' Janet was murdered in 1828. It's all very intriguing, but trying to establish if she is Janet born to Alexander and Mary Leitch is proving difficult. This is the reason why I have been trying to obtain copies of the MI's from Kilmodan just in case they mention her on a tombstone. I've been informed there was no death cert but there is a newspaper report but alas doesn't mention family details.
I shall send over the details. However, if you prefer me to send them via an email address let me know.
I really should introduce myself!!
Elaine Trafford nee Robertson and we live near Winchester, UK.
Bye for now, regards,
Elaine.
