The marriage in Tipton looks to be possible despite the ages

It looks like William & Hannah had three children before 1860.

Samuel is on the 1841 above and on the 1851 but not Martha?

Hi Colin,

Thanks.

I was thinking William was quite young to be marrying at age 16 and also Tipton is not exactly on their door step.  I can't find another marriage for William Taylor and Hannah Cartwright nearer 1836.

I have: -

Samuel who was baptised on 5 March 1837 at St Mary's, Oldswinford.

A baby boy who was born and died during 1840  GRO Pages 302 & 297

John who was born and died during 1842 GRO pages 450 & 292

Baby girl who was born and died during 1842. GRO pages 443 & 328

Martha who was registered in 1848 via GRO on page 528.  Martha was also on Census records for 1851 at Lye Waste, 1861 and 1871 both at Cridden.

Mary Jane who was born and died during 1852 on page 135.

Jane who was registered in 1860. GRO Page 176.

Cridden labelled on the 25 inch map revised 1901

Brilliant as that is where my Dad showed me. Thank you  :)

Thanks Rosie.

I remember vaguely Dad pointing out the narrow road that ends with Old Fireclay Shafts (see map), which was Cridden. Unfortunately there is no name for that dead end road but there are some properties at the sides. It was a large house. The other short street is Badger street, which is between Engine Lane and Dudley Road. It would have been nice to find a street map that includes Cridden.

Worcestershire / William and Hannah Taylor, Criddon House, Lye, Worcestershire
« on: Monday 01 May 23 15:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

My 3rd great grandparents, William Taylor, who was born at Chowbent near Atherstone in Lancashire and baptised on 6 Apr 1817, married Hannah Cartwright (I have not been able to find their marriage yet apart from the one at Tipton in 1833, which would mean William was young at age 16?) Also why chose Tipton when they could have married at St Mary's, Oldswinford or somewhere more local?

1861 Census:-

Relationship: Head. Married, living with wife Hannah and two daughters at Criddon, private house in Lye. Occupation: Nailer

Hannah Taylor   46
William Taylor   44
Martha Taylor   12
Jane Taylor   1

I have been trying to find Criddon House, Lye on old A-Z maps and am unable to locate it.  Would someone on here know where it is or where Criddon House used to be?

Thanks in advance

The Common Room / Re: Hannah for Susannah
« on: Tuesday 31 May 22 09:00 BST (UK)  »
I have been looking for a baptism for Hannah Cartwright and have come across her as being Susannah Taylor as the deceased wife named in the will. As her mother was Susannah so after reading your post, I'm now thinking that Hannah was most likely to be christened as Susannah but named Hannah during her life...

Worcestershire / John Parish Baptised 17 July 1785
« on: Wednesday 11 May 22 14:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm currently going through my Parish ancestors via Halesowen Parish Registers and came across: -

17 Jul 1785 • St John the Baptist, Halesowen,Worcester,England
John, son of William & Phebe Parish, baptised. Page 295 of Halesowen Parish Registers
1786

and

3 May 1786 • St John the Baptist, Halesowen, Worcestershire,England
John Parish, infant, buried on 3rd May 1786. Page 308 of Halesowen Parish Registers

There's another John Parish, the son of John and Nancy Parish, who was baptised on 14 Feb 1790

and buried on 26 April, 1791 at St John's the Baptist, Halesowen.

However Ancestry has come up with: -

Name   John Parish
Gender   Male
Baptism Date   17 Jul 1785
Baptism Place   Halesowen,Worcester,England
Death Date   26 Apr 1791
Father   William Parish
Mother   Phoebe
FHL Film Number   886632, 886633, 886634

So... the question I'm asking is which is the correct burial for John Parish, the son of William and Phoebe Parish?

Thanks for the report of Charles Bragge/Thomas Selvey.

From the dates, it would seem that Mary Silvey was probably baptised Mary Silver at St Thomas' on Dec 1704 to Joseph Silver, a Nailer and Sarah, nee Pearson. I've come up with a marriage for Mary's parents and baptisms for Mary's siblings:-

24 Jul 1701 at St Thomas, Dudley, Worcester, England
Joseph Silver, Nailer. Sarah Pearson.
Notes: Married by Banns. File Line No: 169. Source: FreeReg

All baptised at St Thomas, Dudley to parents: Joseph Silver, Nailer and Mary, nee Pearson: -

Joseph Baptised: 19 June 1702
Mary baptised: Dec 1704
John baptised: 16 March 1707
Job baptised: 26 Dec 1709
Samuel baptised: 16 March 1711/12
Sarah baptised: 20 Oct 1714
Daniel baptised: 26 Oct 1718

Baptism at Saint Thomas's Church, Dudley, Worcestershire

December 1704 - Mary SILVER, parents, Joseph and Sarah

18 July 1702, Joseph SILVER, parents, Joseph and Sarah

Thanks and I did see those baptisms on Ancestry. They are the nearest dates to Mary's birth age, which would put her as being the same age as William Dunn instead of being a year different in ages as mentioned on their marriage. I was pronouncing Silvey, Selvey and Silver to myself, wondering if the surname, Silvey was put down in error as I couldn't find anymore on her as Mary Silvey. Will add that as a maybe and look up other links via The old non-parochial registers of Dudley that you've provided in your previous message.

Trouble is their marriage was at a Staffordshire church and Dudley was in Worcestershire at the time. As William Dunn was baptised at St Mary's, Kingswinford so I've done The Registers of the church of St Mary's, Kingswinford and nothing there for marriages linking to Silvey/Selvey/Silver. I'm having a nightmare trying to read the old english style writing on the old parish registers for St. Mary's, Oldswinford going back to 1603 and the dates on the left sides aren't written down in english!
