Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Re: 1891 lookup - Booth
« on: Sunday 30 December 18 10:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hollie, before we go any further, just a recap as things are not making sense  :-\

1871 - RG10/2816/86/31  St. Mary Stafford

James Oatun  27  lab  b. Staffs
Elizabeth        27         b. Wolverhampton
George            5                        ditto
ANNE BOOTH  lodger  mar.  40   b. Stafford
Henry Booth  son  17  Shoemaker         ditto
Elizabeth                2                              ditto
John Inskip  lodger  20  Engine cleaner  ditto
Edward Snow  boarder  2                b. Hanley staffs.

1881 - RG11/523/100/20 (not 26 as you had written)  Kent Road, St. George Martyr, Southwark

Henry MOSELEY  27  Bootmaker  b. Stafford
Selena                25                            ditto
Elizabeth              5                      b. Surrey
Martha                 3                              ditto
Selena                 8m?                          ditto
ANN BOOTH  mother-in-law  mar  46  Housekeeper  b. Stafford
Elizabeth Booth  sister  12                                                    ditto

Unless Henery has changed his name from Booth to Moseley this is her son-in-law & Selena is Ann's daughter  :-\

She's not with the Moseley's in 1891 who are still in Surrey.  Can't find her or Elizabeth in 1891...bit of a mystery unless she died (nothing with any certainty is showing on FreeBMD)

I'm not sure if this mystery has been solved, but I have been looking into my Sharmans. I've come across some of my Sherman's living in Stoke of Trent with a Snow family.
I thought I'd mention, as the name Snow popped up in this post also.....

I know of some of my Singletons on the Isle of Man.
My Great Aunt Hannah Singleton nee Young passed away in Barrow in Furness in the 60's. her husband was Norman Singleton.

H Hydes,

Violet married Samuel Smith and had 8 children. I won't name them as some are living, I am happy to say. But hopefully that helps answer your question.

Violet Smith has shown up in some of my family records relating to Edgar Sharman.
I'd love to chat to see if there are any links. Lots of your info matches with mine.....

Lancashire / Re: Maria Baron
« on: Tuesday 31 October 17 10:10 GMT (UK)  »
This is the best I can see for Henry HAKESLEY in 1871, but the mother's name is wrong!  (Unless Maria died, and John remarried?)

RG10/4058; Folio 102; Page 13
1 Wardle St, Newton, Manchester

Ellen EXLEY - Head - Widow - 46 - Charwoman - Manchester
Amelia EXLEY - Dau - 12 - Scholar - Clayton
Henry EXLEY - Son - 10 - Scholar - Clayton
Jenet EXLEY - Dau - 8 - Scholar - Clayton
Wallace EXLEY - Son - 6 - Sheffield

Where did you find the name of Henry's mother if you don't have a birth cert for him?

I have a feeling these are two different families. I'm researching the names above but can't link with Maria.......

Derbyshire / Re: John Hakesley b. 1824
« on: Sunday 29 October 17 14:14 GMT (UK)  »
I am currently researching my Hakesleys. I also have John Hakesley marrying Maria Baron.
I have the family in 1901 and 1911, but can't trace their addresses prior yet. Johns father was James? I have his marriage and children's baptisms....

I have just started looking at my Sharmans tonight.
Many of the names are the same as you mention.
My Robert Sharman born 1819 married Sarah.
Eldest child was called George Sharman, born 1842.

Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Leominster records- SHARMAN, DURHAM

Hi there
Were George and Caroline Sharman a match for you?
They may be the same as in my tree.

OK - I;d misread it as his father being John Young, not his grandfather.

Following back I can see John, Martha's father, b c1827 in Manchester. On 1861 he has sister Augusta b c1840, also in Manchester with him (definitely him - he has Weavers living with him). This leads me to this on 1841, in Blackburn St.  all listed as born in county.

Wm Young    50
Mary Young    46
James Young    18
John Young    16
William Young    13
Emma Young    10
Mary Ann Young    4
Agusta Young    1y 6 Mo

Where does the scottish link come in?

I think I may have got the Scottish link from the Leishman family. The names you have mentioned are all right!

How does this searcg fit with fact that John who married Janet has father unknown on his marriage?

I can see an adopted child on1881 who;d fit the bill

Yes, he was recorded as adopted child. His birth mother was Martha Ellen. She gave birth to him before marrying her husband George Leishman. George must have taken John on as his own adopted child.
I have Johns birth certificate to confirm his mum.
She was a servant at the time of Johns birth.
I also found a John Young of the same age on the census living with Matilda Hassall but just can't link this to my family tree unless she was looking after him whilst his mum Martha Ellen was at work.
