Essex Marriages And Banns 1537-1935

Anyone know what this could denote ? It is in the transcription from "Essex Marriages And Banns 1537-1935" and relates to a man .

Could it be an error in transcribing an S ?

Thank you ,that's very helpful .

I may have got the parameters slightly wrong but ..can someone talk me through the availabilty of electoral registers .

I'd like to check a name in the more recent past 1977 say .

Are registers available for viewing at the British Library ?I know the geographgical location of the person in question .

Are old registers available in local libraries ?

Apologies if there is a relevant sticky that I've overlooked .
