Kinross-shire / Re: Kinross Birth look-up Please
« on: Sunday 08 June 14 03:41 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for your quick response, I have tried to connect this Peter Paton and my Alexander and have been unable to for lack of birth cert.  In 1851 I have this Peter in Dunfermline with another daughter Margaret and granddaughter Janet as well as son Peter.  Shortly after the census this Peter marries a Janet Manclark whose mother's name is Margaret Miller and they leave for Australia.  Laurence remains behind, Margaret also remains behind.

My gggrandfather's children are Catherine (wife's mother's name - deceased), Thomas (wife's father's name - living), Isabella Miller (is his mother's name really Isabella?) Alexander (his name), Peter(father's name - deceased), Robert and James.

I find Alexander in the 1861 census in dollar with a Henry Paton on a farm.  There is an Isabella Millar in Dollar in the household of Manclark from Dunfermline.

My mystery continues...

Thank you,

Kinross-shire / Kinross Birth look-up Please
« on: Saturday 07 June 14 21:54 BST (UK)  »
I have been looking for the birth  of my gggrandfather Alexander Paton for approximately 8 years.  All census information I have found indicates his birth place as Kinross around 1843 - 1844.

His marriage cert Nov 25, 1870 in Central Glasgow District to Janet Fyfe shows his parents as Peter Paton, Tailor and Margaret Paton ms Miller both deceased.

I have found him in 1851 census in Kinross in Boarding House of Catherine Gow listed as scholar, pauper with no Paton's close.

I have searched Scotland's People with no luck finding a birth certificate.  I am thinking either he was illegitimate or was a member of the Associate Church and therefore would only find records there..

Was hoping someone would be able to look-up in Kinross family history center or direct me elsewhere.

Sincerely,
Bonnie Paton-Pietruch

I have a McElmoyle family emigrated to Carbon County, Pennsylvania in 1873, Hugh McElmoyle (father Samuel) married Margaret Hodge (father William) February 6, 1849 in Newtown, Limavady.

Children William, Ella, Jane, Margaret, Hugh, Henry, James Alexander, Samuel, Robert and Martha.
I have all children except Ella or Ellen in Pennsylvania as well as Immigration records, not sure if she married and stayed behind.  I have been unable to get back any further than Hugh born 1825 and Margaret born 1826.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Kinross-shire / Alexander Paton Kinross

I have been looking for the birth  of my gggrandfather Alexander Paton for approximately 4 years.  All census information I have found indicates his birth place as Kinross around 1843 - 1844.

His marriage cert Nov 25, 1870 in Central Glasgow District to Janet Fyfe shows his parents as Peter Paton, Tailor and Margaret Miller both deceased.

I have found him in 1851 census in Kinross in Boarding House of Catherine Gow listed as scholar, pauper with no Paton's close.

In the 1841 census I found a Peter Paton 35 Tailor, with children Agnes, Laurence and Peter.  This Peter I tracked to Australia where he died and on death cert lists  marriages to Janet  Geddes, whom I assume had died prior to 1841 & second marriage to Janet Millar who accompanied he and son peter to Australia - daughter Agnes Pattullo had emigrated there after 1841.No mention of  a child Alexander or marriage to Margaret Millar.

No certs in Scotland's People for his birth or IGI mentions.  I am assuming( I try not to assume but this brick wall of mine is making me crazy) either Alexander was illegitimate son of Peter or his birth may be documented in Associate records of Kinross which the LDS do not have microfilmed.

Do the records exist locally or are they all held in NAS?  He was married in Presbyterian Church in Glasgow by George Proudfoot and I have had little luck identifying that church specifically to see if there is more info on other family members in
church records.  I would assume films cannot be ordered and purchased from NAS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the information.  Back to the Family History Center to order films.  May actually begin to make some progress on this line.

I have a Hugh McElmoyle born about 1830 Derry married a Margaret Hodge (?) in 1849 Derry County.  Emigrated to Summit Hill, Pennsylvania in 1870's.  They show children Hugh (1860), Henry(1861), James Alexander (1863), Samuel(1865), Robert (1869), and Martha (1872) born in Ireland.  As they married in 1849 I might assume there were other children who did not emigrate with them.  I have found James Alexander, Samuel, Robert and Martha all with fitting birth dates on Irish Genealogy site in Derry Genealogy Center listings.
They attended Presbyterian Church in Summit Hill, but have not found much else.

Any connections to your McElmoyle's.

Hi All,
Would be very interested in any information related to Henry Paton brother of Alexander Paton found in the 1861 Census.  This Alexander born in Kinross is my gg grandfather and I have been unable to track any information about his parents Peter Paton and Margaret (?Isabella) Paton.
My Alexander married Janet Fyfe in Central District, Glasgow.  His son Alexander emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1906.
I have been unable to find Henry in the 1871 Census and believe I nay have had contact with the member looking for the other Henry Paton.
