A decent date calculator should take note of Julian/Gregorian calendars changes.

The change was not universal worldwide, England was several years behind many continental countries, so a calculator would also need to include several change dates depending on country, a nightmare to programme.

On the 1891 census James` sister Rachel lived with her husband at 10 Ladylaw Place, Hawick. I thought it seemed familiar, so on with the thinking cap!

In 1905 Agnes` sister Mary married William Scott - their address was 10 Ladylaw Place.

24 years between the 2 events, but Mary and Rachel had only 1 year in age separating them !

1905-1891 = 14 not 24.
Although that is still a little strange, maybe Mary just couldn't find the right man.

"Aircrew Remembered" has the following entry for him:-

Scroll to bottom of page, at the far right of the entry is a link to the accident report on the training flight round the Isle of Man.
His name is still redacted because his death was recorded in the Isle of Man not in England. They have a separate system.
Search for certificate reference:- IoM BMD

EDIT: Unfortunately the BMD reference appears to be incomplete which may make obtaining a certificate somewhat expensive, the Registry make a charge of £27 for searches (upto 5yrs) of records before 1980.
