A newspaper article related to John Richardson Higham and Handsome Boy states...

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Wording on Horse Photo (Handsome Boy)
« on: Friday 31 May 24 15:51 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon,

I was wondering if anyone is able to work out what the wording says on the image attached, please? (Bit of a long shot really as I know it's very blurred.)

American Trotting Stallion
'Handsome Boy'
The property of J R Higham, Birmingham
????????

It's possible some of the wording says Blenheim Park, Oxfordshire.

I would also be interested to work out what it says directly under the photo, possibly the photographer details.

For context, the wording is attached to a photo of a man, John Richardson Higham, and his horse, Handsome Boy. The horse was bought by John Richardson Higham from the estate of the late Duke of Marlborough. The newspaper clipping with this information is dated April 1895.

I don't know if anyone can help me with the original query on this post?

I have now got the second marriage certificate for John Higham and Amelia Hunt. John's father is recorded as John Higham (Deceased), Licenced Victualler. I'm still none the wiser.  ???

Cork / Edward Donovan
« on: Sunday 31 July 22 10:54 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone help me try to find the birth or baptism record for EDWARD DONOVAN? It states on one census (when he is a prisoner) that his birth was in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, however, I don't believe this is the case. I believe he was born in Cork. (Possibly Selleham, Dunmanway).

Edward was born approx. 1830 to parents TIMOTHY DONOVAN (1801) and ELLEN MCCARTHY (1801). Timothy and Ellen definitely have two children, TIMOTHY/THADY (approx. 1829) and CATHERINE (approx. 1838). I am still researching into possible other children. The family, from Cork, move to Brighton when Catherine is a toddler.

I found, on Ancestry, from someone else's tree, that Timothy and Ellen had another child called Edward. Myself and the lady whose tree Edward is in are a DNA match (3rd cousins twice removed). Her route is through Edward, mine through Catherine.

Edward changed his name to EDWARD DUNN when he was arrested in his early twenties I believe.

I can find baptism records for Catherine and Timothy/Thady, but I simply cannot find one for Edward. Not in the UK or Ireland. Help!

Thanks in advance.

They must have put the wrong name on this baptism
John Richardson Higham
Birth Date:17 May 1837
Baptism Date:14 Jun 1837
Birmingham, St Philip, Warwickshire, England

Son of John and Elizabeth
Father's occupation collector of Tolls

I believe that should say Thomas, not John.

Free Reg has only one baptism in name of John Higham in Manchester  1806-8.
26 October 1806. Manchester Cathedral. Mother Hannah Higham.
May be entirely coincidental but your John has a daughter Hannah
You need certificate for second marriage

I have seen this record and I think this is the closest I've got to finding the information but it's not solid without certificates. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to be able to get certificates. Argh.

Elizabeth passes away in 1857 and John marries again and has more children. These children do not have the Richardson middle name.

Who does he marry, where and when  :-\

He marries Amelia Hunt in 1859. Amelia is quite a bit younger than he is. They have children William, Arthur, Edward, Henry, Amelia, Alice, Charles, Francis and Herbert.

Do you have a copy of the second marriage certificate which should give details of his father's name and occupation?  That information might help to narrow down a baptism.

I don't have any certificates unfortunately.

I am looking for help in locating a birth record or any information relating to the early life of JOHN HIGHAM, born in Manchester in approx 1807.

I know a great deal about John's later life when he moved to Birmingham in the 1830s (his second son, Thomas, is born in 1837 in Birmingham), but I am missing information regarding his birth and earlier life.

From what I know he is born in Manchester in approx 1807. He marries Elizabeth Robinson on 15 April 1827 in Saint John, Limerick, Ireland. The record states 24th regiment so he is obviously part of the military at this point.

Elizabeth Robinson is born approx 1804 in Handsacre, Staffordshire.

John and Elizabeth's 1st son, John Richardson Higham is born in Manchester in 1829. John is employed as a clerk at Manchester Town Hall at this time.

John, Elizabeth and John Jnr then move to Birmingham at some point during the 1830s where they go on to have more children, all with the middle name of RICHARDSON. I would also love to find out where this name come from. (Thomas, Hannah, Elizabeth and William).

Elizabeth passes away in 1857 and John marries again and has more children. These children do not have the Richardson middle name.

Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.
