Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Metal Bridge Cemetary Co Durham, Mcguiness

Hi Boo

just looked at some pictures of Thinford cemetery on line, it did not look anything like Metal Bridge cemetery that I visited, it would have been no more than 75 yards square on the side of a small lane and very unkempt, with barely any grave stones, Thinford from the internet looks quite large with many gravestones and quite well kept, are they one and the same?

Cheers Rgferg

Yes it is the same place, left side the old part not many headstones and to the right the more modern part.

Curious if anybody else is tracing the line of John William Goudie born 26 March 1838 at Tingwall, the son of John born 1810 and Robina Nee Robertson.  John William had three siblings Robert, William and Isaac.

Yes I have confirmed some details on the family tree I am compiling on  the Bayanne Web Site too.

Yes this would have been near to where Cornforth Partnership Office is now.  The former butchers shop and next door was a grocers shop.

Just slightly different spelling on the surname -  Article in the Ottawa Citizen August 8th 1946 - Mrs Effie Vanelli charged with killing her husband in Toronto ?

Hi there, I'm Lisa and the youngest grandchild of Elfie Vanelli, nee Fountain.  My grandmothers early life is a virtual mystery to me and most of my family, all we know is that she was sent to Canada at a young age.  Even her first marriage is only known by some and is a mystery as well.  Can you shed some light on the history?  Thank you very much for the response.
Sincerely,
Lisa.

Hi Lisa,

Regarding Elfie or should I say Elsie, she was born in Sunderland, England in 1906 she is my 2nd cousin 2x removed.  I am fully aware of the articles posted relating to her and her husband,  Elfie parents Joseph and Ellen Brown emigrated to Canada in late 1910.  Her grandfather Thomas Fountain married my 3 x great aunt Elizabeth Ann Hutson/Hudson. Looking at Sandras posts she has provided information I did not have which I need to confirm is correct within my tree time frame, but yes we are related.  Please do PM me.  Sorry delay replying I dont visit this site very often but so glad I did.

Hi...
Not sure if anyone still on this thread but just noticed it..

My 6 x ggm was Margaret Denholm married to James Gibson at Coylton, 1773. I didn’t know that she was from Innerwick and her parents names ... James Denholm and Agnes Hunter. Does anyone have any more info about James and Agnes or info about James’ parents James Denholm and Jean Nisbit please ?

Many thanks.

Regarding Margaret she is my 6 x great aunt, her parents were obviously my 6 x great grandparent,  I have the following on Margaret.  Baptised 15 April 1739 Thorntonloch,Innerwick Parish,Scotland
GRO Reference 711/2 Frame 539 This day James Denholme, Servant to John Davison, Tenant in Thortown and Jane Nisbet his spouse had a daughter baptised Margaret.Witnesses James Nisbet, Mason in Thorntown and Robert Cowan in Thortonmill.

I had Margaret married to David Fortune, on 20 Jan 1764 at Oldhamstocks. Would love to hear your version of Margarets tree,

Yes Thomas did have a daughter named Agnes Fenton-Fyfe who married George Hallett Christie, and a daughter called Margaret Ann F Christie who I believed married your side of the family Mr Howard.  I have not researched Margaret marriage line. But yes I have photos of your great grandfather and his name is located at places within my parish church too.
