Dublin / Re: Flood Family Red Cow and Clondalkin
« on: Tuesday 05 May 20 14:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi Paul
Its now two years since there was a post on this on this string but I'll respond anyway.

I've done a general survey on the Flood surname in many Leinster Counties and I have information on the Fox & Geese families. I can explain the two Michaels and the various James etc. I can send you a PDF document that gives an overview of the family.

However, if your grandfather was Patrick who married Margaret Ryan in Tipperary then I don't see you being directly related to the Clondalkin Family. His father was Richard and I also have details on his pedigree.

I won't write anymore in case youve given reading this string.
Regards
Gerry

Hi Gerry,
Thank you for getting in touch. Yes we got this sorted. I was looking at the wrong family.
If you have information on Richard who actually is my great grandfather that would be brilliant. Patrick and Richard (Dick) both moved to Tipperary. We never met or heard from any of the Flood family in Dublin after that so i have nothing on them. Anything at all would be amazing.

regards
Paul

Hi Heywood,
Since my mother always told me the family were from Tinahely i found a Frederick Maher born in 1920
Frederick
Last name   Maher
Registration year   1920
Registered quarter/year   Apr - Jun 1920
Registration district   Shillelagh
Volume   2
Page   9490

For as long as i can remember my mother told me James was born in Tinahely but the James Maher born in Tinahely does not match up with 10 years of a difference in dob.
I have had this merry go round for the past 10 years in finding out James Mahers actual place of birth/date of birth and family.

Hey Daithi,
I always thought that this family in Tinahely was my family. James Maher was down as born in 1891 but my g grandfather was born around 1901.

No I have not found anything yet,
I was speaking to a person tonight who's Great Grandfather was James Maher from Redbog in Carlow.
We are matches on Ancestry DNA as a 4th cousin. But her James Maher was 1835 - 1910.
The James Maher that i though maybe my great grandfather is first cousin once-removed to her.
His father Richard was her granduncle in the 1911 census form from Redbog in Carlow.
I will keep searching an whittling down the results.
So i see in his marriage cert his father was James Maher also. That should help a bit.
My aunt just send me James brothers Martin Maher,Fred and Richard(Dick).

Thank you hallmark,
it looks like the Mahers were actually from Redbog in Carlow rather than Tinahely in Wicklow where I was always let to believe he was from.

Wicklow / James Maher Tinahely

Hi,
I am looking for information please on my Great Grandfather James Maher.
From what i can find he was born in 1891 to James and Mary in Tinahely in Wicklow.
He joined the Army and was stationed in Nenagh where he met my great grandmother Mary Hogan.
They married 16th January 1924 in Youghalarra Church and had 9 children including my grandmother in Newtown just outside Nenagh.
When i looked at James Mahers headstone it said he was born in 1901 which is 10 years after his stated age. His army record also says he was 21 http://census.militaryarchives.ie/pdf/Bushfield_Nenagh_Division_3_Southern_Command_Page_34.pdf
From talking to my mother James had at least 1 brother, Frederick b 1920.
I am trying to get to the bottom of James birth and who his parents are.
From searching around the area there is a James Maher born around 1901 in redbog in Carlow which is not too far from Tinahely I am wondering if i have the incorrect James in my list http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Carlow/Clonmore/Redbog/307940/

Thanks Dathai,
I have been to Garristown cemetery twice as it is not too far from my house and couldn't find James Walsh or any of the Walsh's graves. It made me wonder were they buried in Rolestown cemetry, where James parents were married.
I will take a trip over in the next few weeks to check again.
