@Neale1961

Yes I agree, the signatures of the two Gourd women are also quiet similar in my opinion. I haven’t looked at the witnesses or the possible father William Gourd yet. I’m just working with ancestry at the moment.

Yes you right the dates are very close so maybe a different couple  ???

@amondg

Im not familiar with marriages by license or where I can find these kind documents to be honest

It would be interesting to know who Anthony Gourd was , maybe a husband, possible father or a brother

Hello,

I really need help to find my ancestor Elizabeth Gourd. She married James Howard 1768 in Chertsey,Surrey. On the same page is an Ann Hannah Gourd who married James Sheers. I think it’s not a coincidence and they have to be related in some way.

There’s a baptism in Westminster for an Ann Hannah Gourd daughter of William and Anne born 1748. I can’t see one for Elizabeth. The  only  possibility is a baptism in Kingston-upon-Thames 1749 daughter of William and Anne.

Elizabeth Howard nee Gourd died in 1816 born around 1746.

There’s also a Burial for an Anthony Gourd 1767 in Chertsey. Maybe a relative or maybe the first husband of Elizabeth?

Can someone help please ?

Moses

I think she’s the one who married James Sheers in Chertsey 1770 as Ann Hannah Gourd. There’s an Ann Hannah Gourd baptised 1748 Westminster daughter of William and Ann , born Oct. baptised nov. Is there a sister Elizabeth?

I’ve found a baptism of an illegitimate child called Sukey Gourd born 1769 Chertsey son of Hannah Gourd. Could Hannah be the sister of my ancestor Elizabeth Gourd? Or the widow of Anthony Gourd who died in Chertsey 1767?

@rosie99

I would not discount Hayward either, I’m just afraid to trace the wrong man and family. There’s a James Hayward b. 1740 Chertsey son of John and James Hayward b.1738 son of Thomas.

@Hillhurst

I saw this baptisms too but was not sure if she is the one I’m looking for . I’ve found a death in Chertsey for an Anthony Gourde 1767 no age given, maybe a relative of Elizabeth Gourd?

Hi again,

I’m still looking for the couples baptism and their parents. James Howard was born around 1738 and his wife Elizabeth Gourd born around 1746.

The Hayward baptisms are possibilities but for me Hayward and Howard are two different surnames ???

Thank you for helping me to find my ancestors Marriage.

James had a brother called William born 1769 East Ilsley who married Mary Prior there in 1797. Maybe James married his brothers wife ?

Thank you all for your messages! I’ve found the marriage and the baptisms of their children on Ancestry but the baptisms are without image. On the 1841 Census James and Maria Milld are 63 and 60 both born in County and James is a Labourer.

The marriage in 1808 is just a guess I can’t find any other suitable marriage for the couple  ???

Hello,

I‘m still looking for the marriage of James Mills and his wife Maria who baptised the following children in East Ilsley:
1807, 28 Mar  William
1809, 20 Aug  Elizabeth
1812,  05 Apr  Sarah
1815, 30 Apr  Eleanor
1818, 05 Jul  Elizabeth
1821, 02 Sep  Thomas
1824, 11 Jul,  Joseph

I’ve found an interesting marriage St Bride Fleet Street,City of London between a James Mills widower and Mary West widow. James was married to Hannah who died 1801 so he was a widower. There was a marriage between a William West and Mary Pike in West Hanney not far from East Ilsley. This couple had a child in Northmoor,Oxforfshire where the groom was from. It’s just a theory but maybe its my couple ?

I have other ancestors who married in St Bride Fleet Street what were the reason to get married there ?
