Thanks so much for that, your suggestion does sound plausible.

Thanks for the replies. I have been using Ancestry.co.uk but until now didn’t actually realise that you could find mothers name from the GRO so easily. What a useful resource. I wonder still if anybody has information on Westmoreland place, and better still if anybody knows why the couple were there in the first place? If not, does anyone know how (or if) I could go about trying to find occupancy in the late 1860’s?

I have a Richard Harrison dob 6 Aug 1846, born at Greenfolds farm in Slaidburn, West Yorkshire, who married an Isabella Shaw, born in June 1847 in Long Preston, West Yorkshire. They married apparently on 14 May 1868 in St Matthews church in Liverpool. On their marriage certificate they were in service in Westmoreland Place in Liverpool. Their fathers are named correctly on the certificate, but I note that some people had Richard being married to an Isabella Morphet instead. I can find no evidence of the latter being so, so I reckon that Isabella Shaw is accurate, even though on the 1871 census they were back in Long Preston with Richard being an agricultural labourer. I can find nothing of use on Westmoreland place, except one blog in 2009 to say that Westmoreland Place was a house. Does anybody have any information to add to the above, I would be very grateful to hear anything. Thanks
