Not being an expert on aeroplanes I don't know if the Beechcraft GB2 is the same or a different model to the UC 43 - but if NicolaLee99 ties down the years it/they were in service it would also narrow down a date for the photograph.

Yay for us!

I'm not 100% on the dates, but he would have been old enough to be in service since 1942, although we have definite records he was in the Air Arm during 1944-46. After having a look at the models you suggested I actually think I've come across the plane: Beechcraft Model D17S Staggerwing in FAA colours. The one in the picture Ive been told is from 1943

First thing to say is that it's not a WW1 (1908 pattern) tunic worn either by Other Ranks or Officers.
Agree with the other comments closer to WW2.
With regard to the other part of your question about "younger brother" dying WW1 if you give us his name & date of death we'll take it from there.

After taking a quick look, I've found all of the brothers names and a bit of information. The one I think my family is refering to is Horace William Deeley, who served in the Scots Fusiliers and was shot in 1915.

Thanks, but I couldn't seem to find anything. The closest I came across was the Fairey Albacore, but even that is not exactly the same

World War Two / WW2 Fleet Air Arm Aircraft?

Hi, I've found this picture of my great-uncle Stanley Deeley (left), who was a pilot in the Fleet Air Arm during the war. We don't really know anything about where he was stationed or what he did, apart from my mum remembers being told he possibly flew a few transport planes as well as fighter/bombers, and she definatly says he flew American Corsairs. I am asuming he also flew this plane, can anyone help me identify it?

Thanks

Wow, thank you everyone for responding this is fascinating to learn! I have quite a few family members who were in the RAF, but no mention of anyone pre-WW2.

Unfortunately, we know very little of my grandads family apart from him and his brother were both in the Air Force and their dad was a soldier in WW1. There is no specific information about my grandads uncle apart from that he "was shot and killed during the war". This could have been a generalised statement about the 1910-1920 "wartime era" (he may have been killed just after the war) and there is no mention of whether he was army/air force, so its uncertain whether the man in the photo is the uncle we're thinking of. I'm currently trying to access family records to see if there were any brothers, and also to find names and dates of family members to find military records.

Hi,
I've been going through a tonne of photos found in my late grandads house and came across this one. No one in the family knows 100% who this man is but due to a resemblance to my grandad, I believe it is my great-grandads little brother who was killed early on in the First World War. We have yet to find any military records for him and in the meantime I was wondering if someone can tell me anything about the uniform? For instance, I've never come across a side cap with two colours. He possibly served in the Kings Liverpool Regiment alongside his brother who was a Corporal, but we cannot confirm for sure which regiment he was with.

Thanks
