There's another Alexandrovskaya within St Petersburg. It used to be called Alexandrovsky 100 years ago, later the name (just the ending) was changed. It had also been a village c. 1900 and it became a part of St Petersburg in the 20th cent. It was a village of summer houses (dachas).

It was quite a usual thing for engineers and other people from Europe to come to Russia, live and work there before 1917.

Medwed/ Medvid means a bear

Nicolai Medwed and Eufimia Medwed nee Guralik most likely were Ukrainians (or Rusyns/Русины, as they used to call themselves back in the 19th century in Galicia)

Records on p. 541 are in Russian, it's the old orthography

Since Yuzhinets is in Chernovtsy region of Ukraine now, you can send a request for a genealogy search to the Chernovtsy State Archive, they do it for charge

I have founded the Semichoss picture - Teestunde im Hause der Familie Semichoss.
I was thinking that it was an English spelling of the name but it turned out that it was German.
So it is Semihoss. There are no people named Semihoss in Russia. Semihoss is misspelled or mispronounced Semihvost (Semichwost in German). Хвост (hvost) means a tail. So Semihvost means seven-tailed. Its a very rare name too.
I have found 2 persons with Semihvost name, 1 of them lives in Kiev, and 17 with Semihvostov name, it seems they all live in Russia. Semihvost (without -ov ending) looks like rather Ukrainian surname than Russian.

I also asked for help on a forum about embroidery and have begun some research on Petronella's dress.

I ask your permission to post the Petranella Merkurieff's photo on a forum about hand sewing of historical clothing. Maybe some ladies will share their opinions.

I have found that Gerulis surname is of Lithuanian origin.
A genealogy forum member living in Lithuania suggested that it may come from:
1. geras=good, kind
2. girulis=solitary

Семичес (Семичёс) is a variant of Semichoss, pronunciation is the same.
This name comes from "семь"=seven  +  "чесать"=to comb/to scratch
I have no idea what man would be called this name for.
It is 100% Russian name and needn't to be russified.
