The Sarah Fielden I am looking for married James Fielden of Square, Walsden (1768-1828) in 1797, when she was 22, and their other children are born after this date.  But my ancestor John Fielden 1791-1848 was born before their marriage, so I am not sure about things.  Sarah would have been 16 when he was born, and not yet married.

I got the GRO death digital image for John Fielden, at least I think I have the right one, it says he died 24th July 1848 at Knowl Wood, Walsden, age 58, Labourer, and the Informant is Coroner Dearden who gives his cause of death as "Visitation of God".

I assume this is the burial at St Mary's of your James

1828   27-Oct   James           Square   60

no spouse name given but I would guess the register at the time only recorded male spouses as none are recorded in the list

Thanks.

That extract from the burials register you posted is dated 1842

There is this Sarah

   FIELDEN, SARAH       75
GRO Reference: 1842  M Quarter in TODMORDEN  Volume 21  Page 594

That is the one that I got, shown above, and I think it is probably not the Sarah Fielden I am looking for.

It seems as though the names Sarah and Sally were interchangeable, and in this case maybe used to differentiate related individuals named Sarah.

Thanks, I am sure all that information fits in somewhere, and Thomas Lord was the Informant on the death certificate.

Maybe her death is listed on the GRO as Sally rather than Sarah?  Edit:  I just checked the GRO and there is no Sally Fielden either of likely age died 1849 + or - 2 years.

James Fielden 1768-1828's brother John I have down as 1765-1806, so he died before his brother.  I must have got these dates from Ancestry or Geneanet trees, so they could be wrong.

These were all extremely common surnames in that area.

One of my ancestors, Sarah Fielden nee Crossley, I have down as died 7th May 1849 age 74.  I can't remember where I got those dates from, probably an Ancestry tree or Geneanet.

My ancestor was the widow of James Fielden of Square (Walsden), 1768-1828.

I looked up Sarah's death record on the GRO, but couldn't find anything for 1849.  I searched from 1837 to 1860, and the only death of a Sarah Fielden anywhere near those dates, other than some who died age 0 or otherwise much too young, was 1842, M quarter in Todmorden, age 75, which would make her born 1767, so similar to her husband.

When I ordered the Digital Image from the GRO, which now cost £2.50, it says she was the widow of a John Fielden.

James Fielden did have a brother called John, also born in the 1760's, and I am wondering if there is a marriage between Sarah and John Fielden, after James Fielden's death in 1828?  In Todmorden/Walsden.

I suspect that William Blood could be Thomas's brother, I have not looked for his baptism.  William & Rebecca are naming their children with the same first names as Thomas and Ann have used

Thanks, it does look as thought there should be a family connection somewhere.

Elizabeth Blood baptised 21 Mar 1813 at Shifnal parents William and Rebecca

ADDED There is no date of birth on that baptism.  On the same date a Thomas Blood was baptised with the same parents

Thanks.

Elizabeth Blud born 25 December 1818 Shifnal is showing in  Non Conformist register, parents William & Mary

The Hope-Brown Ancestry tree, who two DNA matches have, has Elizabeth Blud born 1811, died 1893.

The name Blud could be fairly common in Shifnal, and the Elizabeth who could be connected to my ancestors married William Ellis, in 1835 when she would have been 24 (born 1811).

If she was Ann's sister, her parents would be Thomas and Sarah Blud.

Marriages at St. Peter’s, Wolverhampton.
BLUD Elizabeth, spinster, 5th Mar 1835, to ELLIS William, bachelor, Banns.
BLUD Ann, spinster, 26th Dec 1832, to SCOTT Walter, widower, Banns. Harriet was a witness.

Thanks.  It does seem as though Elizabeth is another of Ann's siblings.  That is definitely my ancestor Ann Blud who married Walter Scott.  If Elizabeth isn't Ann's sister, she could be another close relation, especially as I have two DNA matches with Elizabeth Blud who married William Ellis on their trees.
