"Chreswell, Elmton"

There's an Elmton near Creswell, Derbyshire

That could well be it, I have just gone back one page on the census records and there is a Smith family, Head is William and mother is Ann, from Cuckney which is just along the road from Chreswell.

Thank you!

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / birth location - Derbyshire or Notts?

Hi

I'm trying to find the birth record of Mary Smith, father is William who was living in Eckington, Derbyshire on the 1861 census. I don't think the transcription is correct  (I googled it, it doesn't exist) so can any of your guys help me?

John Liveridge is the husband, I should add  :)

I think the first three letters are Lpl, for Liverpool - the place where he 'Failed to join'.

It did indeed leave Liverpool so this is most likely, thank you

It looks like "He failed to join"

Arh, yes that would make sense, thank you.

Thank you both, now I don't know much about the Scottish naming traditions, is this likely to be a maiden name of a grandmother?  Archie's mother was McAdam.
