Hi Craclyn

Regarding Emigration records. I'm not ruling it out. You could well be right. However, no one in previous generations I spoke to knew anything of a James in any other country. I would have expected some sort of contact over the years between Scotland and where ever he emigrated too.

Death seems best bet given above and nobody in the family even knew he existed until I found his birth.

Oh well I think this is one brick-wall that won’t be demolished easily.

Thanks again to those who tried to help.

thank you both for trying.

I think he died. There is never any chat about him in family into later generations.

I don't think it is likely to be him.

yes saw that one.

No knowledge of anyone called Russel in the family. Does it say where she was born?

Where would I find these?

Funny how he isn't in 1881 then?

Yes. I found his family in all censuses up to 1901 in Scotland.

His parents died in 1864 and 1898 respectively - death certificates seen. I found all his brothers and sisters subsequent marriage and death records. All of these in Glasgow.

He is not mentioned anywhere.

My conclusion is emigration from Glasgow or death ... and I just can't find him.
