Thank you Carole, I wasn't familiar with that probate search, so that is helpful.
I do have details of their birth, marriage and death, I am posting on here in case anyone has photos or other details they can share. I don't have any photos of Phyllis and her husband James Gordon for example.
Cheers!

The Lighter Side / Re: Surnames in other languages
« on: Tuesday 22 October 19 21:29 BST (UK)  »
The history of the surname is a little more complicated than 'Smith'. During the ancient feudal time, kings will often force people that belong to a rival family to change their last name as a form of submission.

That happened in 1232. After usurping the Ly Dynasty, the Tran’s clan leader Tran Thu Do forced the descendants of the Ly family to change their last name to Nguyen.
Same thing happened in 1592, after losing their dynasty, most of the Mac family changed their last name to either Nguyen or Leu to avoid retribution from the new king.
Then in 1802, the Nguyen family took over the throne, so a lot of people changed their last name to Nguyen in hope of earning favors from the royal family.
The Nguyen themselves bred a lot. Gia Long, the first Nguyen emperor famously had more than 100 concubines. Minh Mạng, the second emperor, had 142 official children.
The Nguyen was also the last feudal dynasty in Vietnam, so there was no new kings to force the same fate onto them.

Renfrewshire / HAIR and DARROCH of Renfrewshire
« on: Tuesday 22 October 19 21:20 BST (UK)  »
am looking into my Scottish ancestors who came from Renfrewshire.
Donal HAIR (1815-1889) born in Argyllshire married Flora Darroch (1818-1869) and settled in Renfrewshire. They had several children who survived more than 5 years:
Donald (1845-1860); James (1847-1861); Margaret (1854-1896); Catherine (1857-1902).

Catherine married Michael MCANN (1856-1910) from Ireland and they ended up in Birkenhead. Michael abandoned her and her 3 children and after Catherine died in a house fire, her children were separated and placed in homes. (Margaret 1886-1965, Felix 1890-1952, James 1892-1968). Catherine had a daughter Flora out of wedlock in 1876 and I believe she died whilst young as she disappears after 1881 census.

In case these match to anyone else's research, woudl love to connect. I have a family tree record on Ancestry.com

Cheshire / URMSTON of Chester
« on: Tuesday 22 October 19 18:59 BST (UK)  »
I am researching my paternal grandmother's family. My G Grandather was Ernest John URMSTON (1879-1936) married to Marie Beatrice CHARMLEY (1883-1957). Ernest's family founded Urmston and Son's Bakery in Chester and it was famous for its biscuits. They had 3 daughters:
Beryl Beatrice (1917-2013) my gran; Phyllis Mary (1907-1983) and Lilian Joyce (1915-1995)

I am especially looking into any information about Phyllis (who married James GORDON) and Lilian (who married William ORTON). Phyllis settled in Ruislip, London and ran a sweet shop until her death. Lilian (known as Joyce), supported the military command in Cheshire but I dont have any details of exactly what she did.

I am researching my G Grandfather and his family. His name was William WILLIAMS (1182-1968) and was first married to Susannah JONES (1878-1918) and then he married Sarah Ann WILLIAMS (1888-1965).
From his first marriage he had 4 sons: Gwilym Henry (1905-1969); David Emlyn (1907-1937), Iorwerth Ellis (1911-1972) and Richard Albert (1914-1987). My grandfather is Richard.
I have been able to find a fair amount of information but if anyone has any information on them, I would like to connect to find out more.
I do have details and family tree i can share on ancestry.com

Armed Forces / Re: ARMY RECORDS-TRANSLATOR NEEDED
« on: Tuesday 22 October 19 18:19 BST (UK)  »
am also looking for some help with my Grandfather's records. Overall I have the gist of what he was doing as part of RAMC, but wonder if anyone can shed some light on the following:
He was listed as receiving a severe reprimand under Section II AA, but he was no demoted and there doesn't seem to have been any consequences I can find, however, I have no idea what this is about, can anyone help?
He was posted to 1 Beach Medical Unit in July 1945, but I can't find any details of such a unit.
He was admitted briefly to 28 IGH but the only Indian General Hospital in Hong Kong was not listed as '28 IGH'.
He was attached to several Companies (Coy) - C, 20, 21 but I have no idea what regiments those were.
I have tried my best to track his actions on an excel, but would welcome a second look from anyone with experience to catch what I may have missed. My grandfather never discussed much about what he did and my father is in the dark so i would love to share these details with my Dad.
Thanks!
