Midlothian / Re: births at edinburgh castle

hi carole,

William H married Daisy Walker, 8.11.1919, age given as 25, his father was a gardener.

I only found out the other information from new cousin last year, my parents seperated when I was a baby, its taken me about 10 yrs to find cousins. this is first contact after 55yrs,   I was told that our nan and her mother said about WH being born in edinburgh castle and his father being gamekeeper/gardener,  he def lived in manchester area sometime before  ww1 tho as he joined up there.

I did send for the birth certificate for bertie william bn derby, but the fathers occupation was wrong plus the year of birth was way out, 1899.

hi carole,

thanks for the reply,   I looked on the 1911 census, not sure if its the right william herbert, he is listed as being the stepson of william wallace, on g.fathers marriage certificate it states william dempster, it does not say the father was deceased so I assume he was still living at the time of g.fathers marriage, but where.

the 1899 birth is also wrong, wrong fathers name.  W.H's father was a gamekeeper/gardener supposed to have been at the castle.

Im still not sure of this, also his year of birth does not coincide with his age on his marriage certificate, I make him being born 1894, but new found cousins insist it was 1898.

I have his army discharge papers also his medal record, he was in the manchester depot reg, he enrolled in seaford.

thanks for the help

I have been trying to find the birth of my g.father william herbert dempster believed to have been born at edinburgh castle approx 1898, his father also called william dempster was supposedly a game keeper/gardener for the castle.   has anyone got any suggestions as to where to look,  a friend on an other site did look on scottish records for me but could find no trace of him or his father.  the family moved to manchester area approx 7yrs later for which I can still find no evidence of him.
any help appreciated.

thanks
