Donegal / Re: Patrick McGilloway

Arlene + Joseph,

The picture i get is that most of Patrick McGilloway and Mary McGonigle's sons and daughters (don't know how many!) emigrated to the US apart from my Great Grandfather Patrick, who went the wrong way and ended up in Glasgow, Scotland.

I would be interested to find about my US links, if you could provide more info

Nae bother, i drew it myself :P

I had a spare credit for SP and checked the John D McKinlay in the 1881 census.

Its for 44 Main Street in Thornliebank (Eastwood).

Alexander McKinlay Head 33 Printfield Worker born Glasgow
Martha McKinlay      Wife  29 Housekeeper      born Thornliebank
Donald McKinlay      Son   8   Scholar                born Thornliebank
John D McKinlay       Son  3   Scholar                 born Pollokshaws
Janie McKinlay         Dau  5m                             born Pollokshaws

Pollokshaws is the next village to Thornliebank but in Glasgow and not in Renfrewshire.

Had a quick check for births in Glasgow and there is a birth for John Dunachie McKinlay in 1878 for Eastwood, Glasgow. I think this must be your guy!

Happy hunting!

Brian.

Joette,

Thanks for the offer. I would like to go through to Register House but I've got no holidays left to take this year (and we're only in May!).

Good luck with the family!

Brian.

Thanks for pointing that out to me. I just assumed before it was some random text.
Would this be held at Register House?

I'm a Thornliebank boy too! The village was built to house the workers from the Thornliebank Printfields (fits the profile of the father's occupation).

Lanarkshire / Coal Mines in Calton
« on: Monday 08 May 06 13:54 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking at the 1851 census for Calton (address 146 Old Dalmk (Dalmarnock?) Road). Most of the professions here are Coal Miners. Does anybody know what mines were close by and if any records would have been held.

Lanarkshire / Re: Strathclyde football team?

Having been a follower of Scottish Junior football all my life, i'm pretty sure Strathclyde were a Junior team who i think won the junior cup in 1925. I'll dig a little deeper for you.

Mayo / Re: John Lynn - Birth c1841
« on: Tuesday 18 April 06 13:19 BST (UK)  »
Ticker,

Unfortunately all the birth details i have come from censuses in Scotland, so are quite limited. Mayo is the most specific detail i have!

Cheers
Brian.
