London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / PNK Middlesex?
« on: Thursday 01 June 06 05:45 BST (UK)  »
My ancestor gave her birthplace in the 1871 Census as "PNK Middlesex".  Is this a place, or is it perhaps just short for "place not known"?
She gives her birthplace in previous and subsequent census' variously as The Strand, City of London, and St Martins (which are more or less interchangeable).    PNK is different again.  Did she have temporary amnesia..!
Any ideas welcomed  :)

Somerset / CROSS or CROFS of West Quantoxhead, Somerset
« on: Wednesday 10 May 06 06:26 BST (UK)  »
Looking for information on the Crofs or Cross family of West Quantoxhead, Somerset.

Robert Crofs married Mary Wilcox 26 Dec 1820 in W Quantoxhead.

Children located are:
Lena       b1821
James     b1823
Louisa     b1825
Elizabeth  b1827
Jane        b1830
Charles   b1831
Charlotte  b1834

Charles Crofs emigrated to Australia probably about 1850, where he married Harriet Carter and settled in the Tallangatta region of Victoria.  Soon after this the family surname changes in the records from Crofs to Cross.

I have traced Robert and Mary through the UK censuses, but haven't located any of the other children.  Any information or family contacts welcomed :)

Somerset / Badmans of Wells, Somerset
« on: Wednesday 10 May 06 06:12 BST (UK)  »
Looking for information on the Badman family of Wells, Somerset.

James Badman b abt 1836.  His father is also a James Badman, though I have no information about him at present.  Mother may be Caroline or Catherine.

James Badman married Elizabeth Watts 28 Oct 1860 in St Cuthberts, Wells.

Three children are Elizabeth (b1861, d1870), Henry (b1862) and James (b1864).

Brothers Henry and James both move to London around 1880-82, after their father's death in 1881.

I have located the family in the census records but as the early ones are a little sketchy I'm having trouble digging back before 1840.  Any assistance or family contact welcomed :)
