Hi Anne

As far as you are aware is Loughton the one near Burwarton, or is there a Loughton close to Chetton/Lightwood?

I have just found (in the to follow-up pile) reference to marriage of Elizabeth Hicks to James Massey. Have you info. on any siblings of your grandmother?, also where was James buried?

I have just returned from visit to Burton Coggles in Lincolnshire, where my other GG Grandfather Frederick Jackson was born in 1867, so was absolutely delighted to receive your message regarding the other side of the family.

Forgive all the questions

Regards  Ali

Hi Ann
Thanks for this. I am not sure how this all comes together. There seems to be an age discrepancy of 5 years between what I know of my James Massey and your James. I know that my branch had brother, and subsequently nephew named Benjamin, (died sad circumstances I believe). I will look through notes and perhaps send you a private message.  Perhaps there was an extended family living at Heath House?

I am miles away in Dorset are you in Salop?

Regards

Ali.

Hi Gwynne

1901 Census. RG13/2517 shows James Massey born abt 1826 at Loughton, Shropshire.  Resident in 1901 as head of household with Son (John James)my GG GFather, john's wife Sarah, my GrandMother Lily Mary and her siblings, resident at Heath House, Lightwood, Middleton Priors, Ditton Priors. sub registration district Chetton.

I just cannot pin James down anywhere else.  Lots of James, of varying ages, some from Loughton. So no idea of his wife, or siblings if any, of John James.  May have John James in 1881 RG11/2628 age 15 as Farm Servant at Acton Round. I have marriage certificate of John James to Sarah in June 1894 at Wrockwardine Wood which says that they were both resident there at the time of marriage.

Regards

Ali.

Hi Gywnne

Further to the information on 1841 and 1851 census James Massey Chetton, is there any reference to Loughton (near Stottesdon) on either census.  My James Massey is shown on 1901 census as being born there in c1826.  If you have a moment to look for me I would be grateful, I do not have chance to search these very often.

Ali.

Hi Gwynne

Many thanks for this.  The James Massey on 1841 Census would be the correct age for my James, (born c1826). I have him at 1901 Census and at my G GFathers marriage 1894, but have been getting confused by another James, same area, born about 5 years later, probably a cousin, compounded by the fact that it appears there were two families of Massey living at Heath House, Lightwood at same time.

Onward..........

Saw your details on Bridgnorth census with interest, schooled, shopped and worked there until about 20 years old.

Regards

Ali.

Hi, I'm a newbie!.

I am in the early stage of trying to sort out "my Masseys" G GF John James Massey b1862 was son of James Massey b 1826 . in 1901 census both  lived at Heath House, Lightwood, Ditton Priors, Bridgnorth, Shropshire.

Lightwood is adjacent to village of Chetton, could this be your "Chilton"?

Regards

Ali.
