Some of you may remember I was looking for a marriage between William Mountain and a Caroline ?. Well I ordered one of their childrens birth certificates which arrived today. It states mothers maiden name was SMITH!

So, please could you assist me in finding their marriage. I have had a look and no luck.

WILLIAM MOUNTAIN & CAROLINE SMITH - married possibly before 1849 (as their first child was born 1849). William was definately from Bradford and Caroline was possibly from Leeds (the census' state different everytime).

All of their children were born in Bradford

Thank you

Nothing leaps out, that I can see.

Who & where was their first known child;
Where does the ?Hartley come from if not a marriage certificate,
and, what are the census refs for this family unit?

Pauline

I can't find anything either. Unsure about the Hartley bit. I think I must have found something previously. But she was definately called Caroline. Their children were Thomas, Robert Alfred, Job and Sarah. I can find the whole family listed on the 1851 - 1901 census'. Although William died in 1876. All children were also born in Bradford.

I am trying to find the marriage details of William Mountain & Caroline ?Hartley. They were born in Bradford 1824/1825 and had their first child 1849 so I assume they married before then.

Thanks

Hi there

Looked on Kelly's 1909  North & East Yorkshire, nothing listed there.

On Kellys 1912 & 1916, Joseph Monday is listed as Hairdresser at 62 Spencer Street.

He is not listed in Kelly's 1918

Regards
Debbie

Thank you for looking for me. I think he may have run the hairdressers from his front room as I cant find a shop name.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Looking for a shop

In the 1901 census it states my relative JOSEPH MONDAY was living at 67 Spencer Street, Hull. This was a shop that I presume he owned as it mentioned 'own account' under the employment column. He was a HAIRDRESSER.

Can anyone please see if you can find the name of the shop or find a photo? I have had a look but could only find it in one directory (Bulmer's East Yorkshire, 1892) where it only gave me his name and 'hairdresser'.

Thanks very much.
