Buckinghamshire / Re: Mary Cripps abt 1766 - Baptism record

Hi bucksboy

Thanks for your continued interest. Your research matches mine. I am trying to find information to see whether or not there is a gravestone inscription that might have some information (currently waiting a reply), although not optimistic as Richard was a Agricultural labourer and headstones cost a lot of money, however we shall see.

There are some comments made that his Father was Thomas Stockley, but I haven't been able to confirm that yet. So options are nearly run out now.

Many thanks once again

Hi miliiepede

At first I thought it was Mary Cripps and Richard Stockley but the DOBs do not work out. From the licence Mary was 24 years old making her DOB 1774 instead of the calculation from the death date of 1766. Richard's DOB is not included in the Licence brief from the BucksFHS. I'm aware that not all graves will have headstones and there is no guarantee that 'Find A Grave' has recorded them all anyway. Any idea who I might contact regarding the Grave? I have tried the Bicester FHS but am still waiting a reply.

I have tried unsuccessfully to trace Mary Cripps, Mary does not seem to come from Padbury, or at least I cant find her parents. At one time I assumed that Mary had been married before, but I couldn't track down any further information. I could buy the Allegation which costs 11.50 but I'm not sure that it contain any useful information, especially as there seems to be a discrepancy in the DOB's.

Oxfordshire / Stratton Audley Graves - Stockley

Good Morning
I am trying to locate 2 graves in the hope the inscriptions will assist me in my research could you please point me in the right direction. I have tried 'Find A Grave'  but cannot find any information. Both graves I'm seeking are shown as being in Stratton Audley. This is another tack to try and find information about Richard and Mary neither are shown as being born/baptised in Stratton Audley.

1)   Mary Stockley who died in 4th Nov 1834, age 68, buried by D. Jackson Curate. This puts her date of birth as 1766.

2)   Richard Stockley who died in 1845 but was buried 4th Jan 1846, age 71 by John Russel, (???)  Minister. This puts his date of birth as 1774.

Many thanks

Hi all

Sorry to resurrect this topic again but I have been busy with other Ancestors.

I duly contacted BucksFHS and they provided me with a list of Mary Cripps baptised in Buckinghamshire, alas none was the Mary I was looking for.
Further research shows that there was a Mary Stockley living in Stratton Audley who died in 1834 this would make her DOB 1766 a difference of 8 years on the DOB of Mary Cripps from Padbury.
According to the 1841 Census William Stockley(born 1800 and Family)who I believe  Richard and Mary’s son who at the time of the census is living in Stratton Audley. Just as a coincidence, it also shows Richard Stockley (although the transcript has his name wrong) aged 67 also living in Stratton Audley.
I have tried looking at other public family trees on Ancestry they seem to think it is Mary Cripps of Padbury is likely suspect other than the different DOB I’m not convinced.
I‘m not really how to proceed now, I have tried all the combinations I can think of so am open to any suggestions please.

Regards to All

Hi bucksboy

Thanks for the info. I will add it to my research document for further investigation. I've still got a few avenues to go down yet, like where his wife Mary Cripps was born and her baptism record, yet another mystery surrounding Richard Stockley.

Thanks once again

Hi Guys
Sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you.
Having assessed all the information I believe the following to be correct:

-   the marriage entry in 1868 is incorrect. Should read Henry is a widower and Sarah a spinster as her father is William Stokes – This would also make sense as Henry Thomas Jnr DOB 1848. The 1891 Census shows Henry a Widower at age 70 making Henry’s DOB 1821 – Close enough.

-   1861 54 /140/47 - Charlotte Thomas transcribed as 38 yrs. but could be 31 yrs so b about 1823 or 1830. Born ‘Hobbrey, Shropshire’ so as suggested probably Habberley, Shropshire. I could not find any ‘Charlotte’ born in Habberley around the two dates.

-   I could not find a Charlotte Thomas who died between 1848 (the birth of Henry Jnr) and 1868 (the date of Henry Sen 2nd Marriage).

-   I assumed that Henry Jnrs mother’s maiden name was Phillips (taken from the Government Register) as in 1848 as far as I could tell Henry Jnr was the only Henry Thomas born in London around that date.

-   I have tried to find any Charlotte who married a Henry Thomas Sen but the ages just do not come together.

So in conclusion, I still need to identify the maiden name of the ‘Charlotte’  who married Henry Thomas Sen giving birth to Henry Thomas Jnr in 1848,  as this it would appear to be the ancestral line I need to trace.

Thanks once again for your help. Any further thoughts would be much appreciated.

London and Middlesex / Henry Thomas/Charlotte Phillips-Marriage Record
« on: Friday 08 July 22 08:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi Guys
I wonder if you can help me again please. This time I’m trying to find the Marriage Record of:
Henry Thomas – 1822-1879 (I’m not clear this is the date of death)
Charlotte Phillips – 1823- Date of death unknown.

My investigations lead me to believe they had a Son – Henry Thomas 1848-1931.
I got his mother’s maiden name (Phillips) from the General Register Office and his Fathers name (Henry Thomas) from his wedding to Charlotte Crawford in 1867.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have a good weekend
