Hi Gillianstg,

Welcome to RC and apologies for not replying to you sooner.....I have only just seen your Post.

I have contacted  a friend who has more knowledge of the Acfords as my own Tree joins further down the line.....it was on her behalf that I first posted this query.
She is very interested in sharing information and one of us will get back to you,
as soon as she has gone through her files to see what she has about them.

Regards,
Amber's

The Common Room / Re: Birth certificates - father's name
« on: Thursday 11 October 12 15:46 BST (UK)  »
A few instances from some of the  certificates I have.

Father registered all five births, he was their father, but not their mothers husband...someone else was.

Child registered and baptised without a mention that his mother died four days after his birth.

Two from different families where  a fathers name and occupation is listed on the birth certificates....I don't think they existed.

One certificate and baptism where the father is noted as deceased.

Two marriage certificates  where the father is noted as deceased, but he is actually living with another woman.... No1 on my list, one with five children.

Two where the father is actually deceased, so I guess no one asked them that question.

So we can't believe all we find on official documents.

Hi Lizbd,

That couple appear in the 1871, with them again is his m-i-l Honor Blackwell.

Back to the drawing board....might have to send for the marriage cert later.

Many thanks,

Thank you, :)

I will scour the papers to-night to see if the marriage was announced because I see in the 1881 that there is another child Thomas born in 1859. She was still at home with her parents and only married in 1863,  so this Thomas might be from a previous marriage of her husband William.

Thanks Lizdb, :)

I couldn't find that entry for looking ::)

No, I only found an unmarried mother called Grace Thomas in 1871...maybe that's where I lost track of things.

I will go and pick up the details now.

Many thanks,

The Common Room / Re: Still Born Children

I was only surprised by the entries because I hadn't come across it before. None of the children that I came across had been named though.

Often people do not want to upset the parents by mentioning the birth, and actually can cause more damage by ignoring the fact of what has happened to them and their baby.

It happens a lot, people cross over the road instead of acknowledging the bereaved party, leaving them very lonely and sad.

I am having a bad day regarding re-search, and would appreciate some help please. :)

Grace is living with her parents in 1861, Benjamin Toman Thomas born in St Just 1812 and wife Ann 1816 born Madron....after his death Ann uses the name Nanny on the census.

Although I spot an unmarried mother who could be Grace Thomas in 1871, the next positive sighting of her is in1891.
