Northamptonshire / Re: 1794 Upton marriage - Edward Thompson & Elizabeth Marriott
« on: Thursday 08 February 24 00:18 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks all. I think you are probably right that this is the wrong marriage.

My hunt continues -- I now have a possible marriage for Edward to Elizabeth PARSONS in Great Glen, Leicestershire. Their son Joseph reports his birthplace as "Glenn" in the 1851 census, and there does seem to be a baptism of a Joseph in Kibworth Beauchamp (near Glen) in 1796.

I am currently awaiting the delivery of an item from the Northamptonshire Archives for a removal order for Elizabeth Thomason, 1798, Kibworth to Brington. Hopefully this provides some clues about the family's movements. There are many Marriott families in Brington, so it's still possible that Elizabeth belongs to them, but it remains to be seen.

Any further ideas are appreciated!

Bedfordshire / 1805 Odell marriage - John Drage & Sarah Smith
« on: Thursday 08 February 24 00:14 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking a copy of the (potentially second) parish marriage of my ancestor John Drage to Sarah Smith in Odell, Bedfordshire, on 30 October 1805.

I am looking for the parents of John’s son, Joseph, born in Bozeat (near Odell, in the neighbouring county of Northamptonshire) about 1807 - a lot of online trees have him connected with a different John Drage (probably a relation of some sort, though) who married Hannah Nichols. My John was apparently married to an Esther and had children before the 1805 marriage - but I can’t find a burial for her… and there seems to be a child of theirs baptised after John would have remarried!

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Northamptonshire / 1794 Upton marriage - Edward Thompson & Elizabeth Marriott
« on: Wednesday 31 January 24 23:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am looking for the marriage of Edward Thompson and Elizabeth Marriott. According to the Pallot's Marriage Index, they were married 22 July 1794 in Upton. I have tried looking for the parish register entry, but cannot seem to locate anything. Is anyone able to assist?

Edward and Elizabeth baptised children in Brington, 1801-1816, so I'm unsure where they would have been between the marriage and this time...

Cheers,
Sarah

Northumberland / Re: Thomas Nelson 1860 baptism + 1861 census?
« on: Thursday 01 December 22 23:03 GMT (UK)  »
Yes, sorry, I should have been clearer -- I have a copy of Thomas' 1860 birth registration. A few years ago I thought he was part of a different family (having been born in Felton, the rest of the children in North Shields), but the combo of John & Bridget confirm he is part of the same family.

Northumberland / Thomas Nelson 1860 baptism + 1861 census?
« on: Wednesday 30 November 22 22:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am chasing my NELSON family in Northumberland, specifically Thomas Connell NELSON who was born 24 Feb 1860 in Felton. His parents were John & Bridget. I have just discovered a potential Anglican baptism for him in Felton (previously I only knew about a Catholic baptism in North Shields, 3 Nov 1861, presumably shortly before his death). I tried to get an image copy from FamilySearch, but they apparently don't allow copies for these particular films. The Felton baptism apparently took place on 11 Mar 1860.

The main issue is with Thomas' parents, they are very hard to track and were fairly infamous characters. I thought finding them in the 1861 census would be easy given baby Thomas, but I've not found anything.

If anyone can assist me with the 1860 baptism (and why he was baptised a second time?), 1861 census or any other info on Thomas and/or his parents, that would be great!

Cheers,
Sarah

Australia / Re: Australian electoral rolls - abbreviations

If you are looking at the rolls on Ancestry, can you flick back through the images to the cover/inside pages and check whether they explain the abbreviations? I have seen this done for suburb abbreviations, for example.

Hmm I suppose that could be Bridget with her possible father Robert, but it says they were both born Scotland? Bridget at least is definitely from Northumberland... Earsdon is also some distance away from Newcastle where Bridget was baptised, and Tynemouth/North Shields where she is later living... but not impossible, I suppose. Then what happened to mother Elizabeth? And possible siblings?
