Looks like the burial is at Waikumete Cemetery but the on-line database is ignoring me..

Hi SandraAust

You obviously have the death entry record from the Registrar BDM website (1985/47710). All that you ask for will be on that record. Click order record and go through the process. It will cost you a few dollars but there is no free way to obtain it. A cemetery record will tell you a little but the death cert contains a lot more.

It doesn't pay to be "dotty" these days.

The 1937 divorce account of Francis Jones gives his occupation as a "Platelayer" which to me means he was employed by NZ Railways. Platelayers were a semi skilled occupation involved in track maintenance. The plates referred to were steel squares screwed to the then wooden sleepers and upon which the actual rails were laid.

Had a quick look at Canterbury but they don't appear to be searchable by name as those published earlier were...or is it just me?

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Hart's Private Hotel - South Island, New Zealand

The 1933 NZ Postal Directory for Milton lists an "E Hart, mtr prop", the 1936 Directory an "Edwd Hart, mtr prop." Both Directories list a "Gray's Private Hotel." Suspect mtr prop might mean a taxi owner. Had a quick look at the ERs but couldn't find him.

Until recent times Scotland had three forms of perfectly legal irregular and common law marriages. They were based on inter-party agreements, public promises and habitual cohabitation. Might this couple have had such an arrangement?

Fife / Re: James McKenzie (born May 1890 Creich, Fife - Died 1965 New Zealand

If I have the correct man I see from the Cemetery Transcript that he died on my birthday, 18 April. The local papers might have published an obituary of some sort given his MM. The Canterbury Library has copies that can be accessed. The RSA themselves published a magazine in which the deaths of serving men/women were reported. They were a strong organisation 1n 1965. I see you seem to have been in contact with them. Perhaps they could help you further. Unfortunately our digitised newpapers stop at 1945 and most currently don't get that far.

Only 1928 has been indexed. I found
Lillie May a spinster in Whangarei,
Lillie a married woman in Devonport and
Louisa a married woman in Dunedin.

No Lottie Madeline
