Is there any way of finding the records for women who served in the ATS? My mother and one of her sisters served, I have my mother's (dress) Service medals that she gave me for my son. However I would like to know more about her service like I have for my uncles.I would have asked her but she had Alzheimer's for a number of years before her death in 2011... plus I no longer live in the UK but in NZ. Thank for any help :)

hi Ken I wounder if you could help me in any way?  I have family members that were named 'Quew' from the Hampshire area of Alverstoke and Portsea (Their name was at one time 'Kew' but my Great x 4 Granddad born c 1798 changed the spelling on joining the Army/Navy ). I do know that James (1) became a pensioner and may have resided at the Navel home Greenwich (He was also at some time 'The Keeper of The Royal Barge before he was pensioned off.) His Son James (2) died of fever overseas during one of  the China opium wars died c1853.
I really would appreciate any information that you or anyone else could find out for me about these two chaps. To save anyone spending time on looking for later family members , I do have the details of the "Quew' family members who served in both 1914-18 and 1939-1945 wars.
Thank you in advance. :)

Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Trotter
« on: Thursday 31 May 07 02:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi Tati Thanx.
Quote
Are there any Trotter witnesses at the marriage?
(No only Reuben Beeley & James Crooks).

I think you may have the right family though.....

Margaret's occupation on the cert is 'Frame Tenter'
Her father's occupation is 'Mason' (John could have been his second name and the one he was known by. As he has named two of his sons both Gerrard and John).

Also Enoch and Margret's eldest daughter was named Margaret Jane.

Thanx again I will look in to the information a little further
 ??? :) :) :)

« on: Wednesday 30 May 07 12:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone, I'm looking for the family of:
Margaret Trotter b leitrim Ireland.
Margaret aged 22yrs m Enoch Beeley aged 21yrs 1877 in Dukinfield.
I'm not sure when she came to England from Ireland and even if her family came too.(could have been during the Famine).

Although her father on the marriage cert was John Trotter occupation Mason. She is shown as living at the same address as Enoch in High St Dukinfield.

Could someone check both the 1861 and 1871 census for Margaret's family for me please?

Thanx in advance of any help  :)
