Hi Ray

On reflection, you are right.  Edith & Annie did not die & your discovery of them living with Mary Ann Lewis looks right.  The burial of Edith at Trelleck is definitely wrong.  I am working on the relationship between Mary Lewis & the Morgan family but I think it is going to prove quite tenuous.

Hi Ray,
Thanks for all the information you have passed over to me.  It is really appreciated.
Edith Mary - I believe that she died Q2 1903 Monmouth RD although the registration details refer to Edith May.  Someone suggested that she was possibly buried in Trelleck.
Annie Elizabeth - there is a death registered Q3 1903 although the age stated is 0yrs which may be a mis-transcription of 3yrs.  This burial may also be in Trelleck.  Were there any burials at Pen y Clawdd around this time?
Frederick William John - thanks for his details, I had looked for "John" following the 1911 Census but would never have expected the other forenames.
It is strange that John snr should describe himself as "hay cutter" in 1911 & "hay trusser" in 1901 especially in early April, a long way from the hay season & a very time limited trade. a bit like calling yourself a snow clearer!
If you visit Ebbw Vale in the near future, I would appreciate it if you could have a quick look for the marriage of John Morgan & Mary??? around 1897 per 1911 census.
By the way, the William Morgan living close by was John's younger brother.
Regards
Fred

Thanks for the info Ray although I did have most of it beforehand.
I particularly wanted to see the PRs for Pen y Clawdd to try to clarify the names, baptism & possible fate of the two oldest children.
Looks like another long trip to Cwmbran is necessary.

A couple of years ago I managed to find a site on Rootsweb containing many transcripts of PRs, which were very useful to the area I was searching at the time.  Now I want to find some further info but cannot find the site anywhere.  Surely it has not been deleted?  Can anyone help please?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Fanny/Frances Sheard One or two?
« on: Saturday 09 February 13 14:38 GMT (UK)  »
Frances Sheard married John Northrop at Almondbury 16 Nov 1815.  The baptism at Kirkheaton of their eldest Mary child gives her name as Fanny but all the other children as Frances.  Normally this would not matter - but!!
There is the baptism of Fanny d of Josiah & Martha Sheard of Dalton at St John the Baptist, Kirkheaton on 17 Apr 1797.  Also the baptism of Frances d of Joshia & Martha Sheard of Bradley at St Peter, Huddersfield on 5 Aug 1798.
I encountered double entries for Holmfirth with the parishes of Almondbury & Kirkburton replicated in the Holy Trinity records, however I cannot believe that this is the case for Kirkheaton/Huddersfield.
Any suggestions or explanations gratefully received.

Sorry all.  I have just realised that I posed this question some weeks ago!
The most likely solution offered suggested was that Fanny died in infancy while the family lived in Dalton & the next child was named Frances but the family had moved to Bradley.
The only problem is that all the subsequent siblings were born in Dalton & bp in Kirkheaton - the sames as Fanny.  Also no burial of a Fanny or Frances can be found.

Thank you everone for your contributions.  I have been very interested in all your comments/suggestions.
Initially, I was convinced that the name began with an "S" but slowly came round to the thought that it could be a "N"   I have just noticed that 4 lines down from Joseph is Nancy d of John Kaye with an identical construction of the "N" - at first sight it looks more like an "H"!
It still seems strange to me that the Almondbury records refer to the area as Overthong whilst Holmfirth uses "U" presumably for Upperthong.  I am told that the original name was Uverthwong.

Clearly the entry found by Sandra in the Almondbury PR is obviously the same person, so he must be from Overthong (Upperthong)   However this does not agree with the suggestion of Sinderhills in Wooldale - if my limited geography is correct, Upperthong is not in Wooldale but on the opposite side of Holmfirth.
I believe that the entry reads "in U" rather than "W", any ideas of an area near Upperthong that starts with U?  On the basis that the "house" part of the name is clear, I have spent some time looking at all the entries for Holmfirth in 1739 & the only two possibilities I can find are Kilnhouse & Hollinghouse.  But neither really seem to fit.
