Ireland / Spence - Ireland to Lancashire

Are there any suggestions where I could look to find details of Thomas SPENCE who moved from Co Down to Manchester between 1871 and 1876.

He was a qualified House Decorator (Painter) by 1876 so could have been indentured in either Ireland or Manchester.

Any suggestions?
